1117398 2010-07-09 07:56:00 Hi, I have a problem.

Today I purchased a BenQ G2420HD monitor for my desktop PC. Prior to that I interchangeably used my Sony Bravia TV and an old DSE 17" monitor.

First I connected the new monitor to the PC with HDMI cable -- the screen tells me "no cable detected". I then tried to connect with DVI and D-Subs cables but with the same result.

OK, so I tired to reconnect my old DSE monitor -- no signal. Sony TV -- still no signal.

Finally, I tested the new monitor with my laptop and it immediately connected.

So obviously there is something wrong with my computer. I built that computer myself a couple of years ago by following guidelines from the internet, but I don't actually know much about computers.

My computer has Asus M3A78-EM Motherboard and AMD Phenom 2 processor. I do not remember my graphics card, but I think it is either Geforce 8500 or 8800 (GT or GS). I use 64-bit Vista.

Any theories on what the problem is? What can I do?

1117399 2010-07-09 07:59:00 Possibly video card, Does the computer still spin up, i.e fans spin harddrive turns etc? gary67 (56)
1117400 2010-07-09 08:01:00 Yes, everything makes noise as usual.

How do I test if it is a video card and what can I do to resolve the problem?

1117401 2010-07-09 08:03:00 BTW, I used it yesterday without any problems. vladiator (14565)
1117402 2010-07-09 08:08:00 Check the video card is seated in the slot properly, it could have been loose and playing around with the cables made it worse... Agent_24 (57)
1117403 2010-07-09 08:26:00 God, I feel so dumb. I opened the case, found my graphics card and only then realised that I have been inserting cables into the MB integrated graphics slots, not into my graphics card!

My poor PC had to experience countless 'blind' restarts only because I was too dumb to correctly connect cables...

Good to know that all's well.

1117405 2010-07-09 09:00:00 I've done worse, once thought a PC was dead because the monitor wouldn't come on

The monitor wasn't even plugged in to the wall....
