1117143 2010-07-08 05:04:00 Hi

Silly question - I just bought a laptop with a bluray combo drive. Unfortunately the dvd part only allows 5 region changes before locking. Obviously I'd like to get round this. My question is, will the methods that work for a similar dvd drive work for this one?
The drive in questions is a Matshita UJ141AS.
Thanks in advance

1117144 2010-07-08 05:14:00 Why would you want to keep changing regions? Zippity (58)
1117145 2010-07-08 07:54:00 I don't. I want to make it region free, rather than get it locked into one particular region. At the moment it allows the region to be changed five times, then it stays permanently at whatever the final one was. No use if you want to watch a DVD you bought off Amazon for instance. 1117146 2010-07-08 08:02:00 use MPC-HC with the k-lite mega codec pack or vlc and you won't have to worry about region code changes GameJunkie (72)
1117147 2010-07-08 08:20:00 I'd agree with VLC. Blatantly the best media player in the world (in my mind) Don't use VLC and k-lite it can confuse things in my experience The Error Guy (14052)
1117148 2010-07-08 08:24:00 i meant the k-lite with MPC-HC GameJunkie (72)

1117150 2010-07-08 09:32:00 Yeah there are several softwares out there which can bypass region coding.

You can also flash your drive with a hacked firmware if you want a permanent fix (but there are no guarantees that one exists yet)
