| 829069 | 2009-11-11 05:06:00 | I don't want to spend a too much more than a hundred on a hard drive. Any recommendations? I have had 3 seagate failures in the last few months so what's the best alternative? Is the WD the best option there these days? www.pbtech.co.nz Looks like an awesome deal, what do you guys think? |

| 829073 | 2009-11-13 00:24:00 | Which model of Seagate did you have the failures on? 2x ST3120827AS - they were in RAID0, after running Sea Tools reveal both have failures. All irreplaceable pictures, videos, music gone forever. Having problems with an ST3500320AS too, although it's still operational, it's no very stable. (Could just be windows?) |

| 829074 | 2009-11-13 00:31:00 | What firmware were they running? Not SD15? That's a bit risky using RAID0 for important data...just cause they are new drives doesn't mean they don't fail, as you've seen. Sort out a backup of sorts this time around :) |

Sorry to hear you lost everything Cato, but RAID0 is never suitable for data you can't afford to lose; you should look at setting up a NAS box with RAID1? |

| 829076 | 2009-11-13 00:45:00 | I couldn't tell you which the ST3120827AS were running, but there was no update for them. The ST3500320AS is running SD15, I couldn't update it while I had no backup or alternative means. I will probably update in a day or two. Oh and I bought a WDC-WD15EADS yesterday, happy with it so far. |

Yeah I know. When I had the RAID up and running, I never thought that I would miss any of it. Yeah, I noticed at PBTech yesterday they were selling dirt cheap (probably used) IMBs, I might buy one and set up a nice quite media/backup server when I have some spare $$. |

Yeah the funny thing about music/movies etc is that even though you most likely have the source media (dvd's/cd's), and it's technically replaceable, you still spend a heap of time ripping it, converting it, cleaning up the metadata etc so it's a pain in the arse to replace. |
