827869 2009-11-08 20:41:00 Meh, I keep my 2-stoke for months, I store it in the weed-eater, Fires up just fine.

Best thing you can do is buy one of those replacement heads linked earlier, You can use whatever sized line you like, including heavier stuff then what you would use if you had to spn an entire spool of it.

Personally found double-spool heads just as troublesome as single spool heads. If not more so, It just gives 2 lots of line to get tangled and refuse to come out while you smash the damn thing into the ground swearing at it.

Couldn't have put it better myself! Used the 3mm (I think) cords in the Lil Juey and found no probs cutting anything. Last longer against a concrete wall too.

It has nothing to do with whether the engine fires up or not. According to the Stihl dealer, the issue is to do with ensuring adequate lubrication of a two stroke motor. Stale two stroke mix doesn't do it properly.

827871 2009-11-08 21:30:00 I've disposed of old 2-stroke fuel in my car, but only after several years of storage when we didn't mow our own lawns. Since I was a kid I've always done my own mower maintenance and when we had a family bach we kept a 2-stroke mower there and a 10 litre tin of fuel. That 10 litres would last for years (we didn't mow often, maybe 4 times a year) and the mower never had any problems. I would occasionally clean the air-filter and carb bowl but never found anything in the bowl but clean petrol-oil mix.

I might have thought differently perhaps if it was for an outboard and I went out fishing, but I can't see any issue in keeping petrol in a sealed can, it runs a mower just fine, stale or not. You can get far too prissy about these things.

Cheers

It has everything to do with firing up, If the carb gets gunked up due to bad fuel then it either won't start, be hard to start, or will start but run badly.

In the event the oil component failed to lubricate the engine, then it would seize and definitely wouldn't start.:D

Funny enough I used my 2-stroke mix for a number of years with no issues, then a mate used the last of it in his MX bike and it seized, However, a weed-eater and an MX are not the same thing....

827873 2009-11-08 22:44:00 I use 6 months as shelf life for mixed 2 stroke fuel.
I do what Billy does and put it in the Ka.
Every ****** weedeater I have had the auto feed craps out and have to manually set out the nylon.
Beware of using nylon to big dia because it grabs onto stuff and rips the weedeater out of your biscuit grabber.
