1116781 2010-07-07 03:32:00 Hi,

I've just got another computer - my first with a TV tuner / capture card.

The computer didn't come with any software for it.

What's the best (and easiest) software to use with these things? I am running XP Home, so anything linux based isn't an option....

Is there something which will provide TV Guides etc for NZ channels?

Thanks!

1116782 2010-07-07 03:58:00 XBMC (http://xbmc.org/) and Windows Media Centre Seem to be the most common ones around.

You don't specify what type of tuner you have. Analogue or Digital.

1116783 2010-07-07 04:55:00 Yeah, most interesting point is the type of card.

From there the EPG question can be answered.

I'd be tempted to push you towards GBPVR/Media Portal. Or the TV Software that is made by the manufacturer of the card - although these products don't tend to run EPG data.

1116785 2010-07-07 06:04:00 It's an Asus 7134 capture card? Has a coax input as well as RCA and S-Video inputs...

I've tried Media Portal - but for whatever reason, it kept crashing when I tried to search for TV channels....bah!

I need something easy to use....I don't have the time to tinker too much, and the people who will be using it aren't computer experts...

I downloaded a trial of Beyond TV, which is great, but I don't have a credit card to buy the full version.

Freeware alternatives?

P.S. Thanks for your help thus far....really appreciated!

1116788 2010-07-07 06:19:00 "Asus Digital VCR" is probably the prog designed for it.
It works acceptably (I still use it with an Asus TNT2 capture card for analogue video) and is available for free from their (horrible) site. You may have to search their archives for your card model as it is probably a bit long in the tooth now.

It has programmable recording times but no EPG.
AFAIK only the digital ones support that (as the data is embedded in/alongside the video stream??)

I had to take apart the box to get the card number, and I installed the drivers from the site, but not the recorder...

CheersZ!
