1117773 2010-07-11 05:08:00 Wanting to get a good computer for gaming, such as battlefield, quantum of solace and other similar games.

I'm looking at these 2 auctions on trade me - 301661716 and 302595825

Can I have someone else's non-n00b opinion   on what would be better for this type of thing?

Then there's this one.. 301124444 which is higher cpu speed, but not sure about the rest of the specs..

1117775 2010-07-11 05:53:00 Yea not sure id buy a computer off anyone that is retarded enough to add each cores clock value together, its like adding 400HP for each cylinder on a car to come up with 3200HP, utter BS :P

Anyway i suggest you state your budget and we can make some recommendation and suggest a "trusted" retailer, probably as cheap.

1117776 2010-07-11 05:56:00 Looking good, Just note one has an AMD Processor and the other one is an intel i5. apart from the extra GHz on the AMD auction (the first one you listed) some specialist products perform better with Intel/AMD based chipsets but I doubt that will be an issue with games.

The 2nd auction will be more expensive for a reason but apart from a more expensive component somewhere I dont think price is relating to an extra GB of RAM or better specs as far as I can see

1117777 2010-07-11 06:18:00 Once you start hitting the quad-core market (Or even dual-core 3Ghz+) then it's pretty much *all* about your GPU, and not about your CPU or RAM. Anything 3GB upwards is enough for all the games that are out in todays market, so again, your GPU is the *core* part you want to spend as much money on as possible. Chilling_Silence (9)

Unsure what that means, but I'll take your word for it lol.

I'm looking within the price range of those 3 auctions I listed.. say up to around 1500.

Someone who I know of who is a real gamer suggested this auction (www.trademe.co.nz) was the one to go for.. It closes at 4.50pm, so if you're able to show me what I should be looking for before then, that would be great.

Thanks again.

That auction is just using the onboard graphics so will be no good for gaming.

"""CPU speed: 17 GHz """ is utter bullsheep, no such thing is what I mean .

You wonder who you are buying off to make such a ridiculous claim . But knock yourself out, just hope you don't have any problems with it and need support .

301124444 this machine is hopeless for games unless you upgrade to a decent video card . As it stands it is a REALLY bad choice for gaming becuase it only has on-board video .

"""VGA Integrated ATI Radeon HD4200 with HDMI Output and 128mb DDR3 1333mhz Sideport memory plus up to 896mb shared memory""

Out of the machines you listed 301661716 is the the best gaming rig as it has the best video card .

I suggest you email a trusted retailer telling them your budget and you want it for gaming . This is just one retailer I would suggest .

1117781 2010-07-13 00:57:00 Trademe retailers selling complete systems are ripoffs, never trust them for a value system. If you see a good CPU combo, the video card would most likely be crap or mediocre at best. If you see a good video card in the system, their CPU will be total crap (though when people see 'Quad' they'll think it's a good CPU - not necessarily).

As BT2 suggests, go email CComputerlounge and they'll give you the best value system for your cash.

Crazy.
CPU is NOT the most important thing for gaming - the GPU is.

The CPU speeds are incorrect anyway, why do these halfwits think because it's multi core it means the Ghz is multiplied? It isn't.

They don't even have Windows - trial of Windows??!!! What the hell is that all about?

And how about good quality components, and warranty.
Any idiot can sell you something - if something goes wrong I for sure would want a reliable trustworthy shop to contact and have it sorted, not have to chase dodgy dealers off Trademe.

Go to either Computer Lounge or Playtech.
