| 830817 | 2009-11-16 21:12:00 | Just had another look at my PCWorld for Sept. page 71 The first letter gives advice about making MSWorks v4.5 compatible with Vista. Uninstall the program and then right click the set up disk. The set up file is to be opened and then compatibility is selected so as to be able to select WindowsXPService Pack2 - then install the suite. Well I use this version of MSWorks even though I have later versions as the old version is so much faster and more convenient. I had the good sense to avoid Vista, so I have no problem. But of course following the PCWorld advice leads to problems as the disk has no reference to WindowsXPServicePack2 as XP hadn't been thought of in those days. So not good advice - makes me wonder if anybody else can improve on the above. |

Yea it's got nothing to do with the MS Works disk itself, the XP SP2 compatability option is a Vista/Windows 7 thing. |

Changing that option simply tells the software that it's running on a different version of Windows. Interesting! But I have tried the advice on 2 computers - a desktop and laptop and in neither case can I get any reference to XP. So to my utter and complete amazement I may be right when I say this is not good advice. Guess I'm going to be shot down in flames now. I am rather puzzled. Tom |

| 830823 | 2009-11-17 19:26:00 | Interesting! But I have tried the advice on 2 computers - a desktop and laptop and in neither case can I get any reference to XP. That's probably because you're on XP. |

| 830824 | 2009-11-17 20:46:00 | That's probably because you're on XP. Yep dead right. Now I am confused. I thought being on XP would be more likely to offer XP as a choice. I do like the way in our forums we tend to drift off and enter sometimes unrelated areas. This I feel has happened here. My original "moan" was because I found the advice in PCWorld did not work - I rather hoped they would explain why - but honestly I don't need to do it myself - in this case I am not in any problem - my MSWorks is fine on my computers - I love it, and only tried the advice out of curiosity. I must also admit that I did not in fact uninstall the existing copy of MSWorks before trying the advice. Tom |

| 830825 | 2009-11-17 20:47:00 | Why would it run in compatibility mode for itself? It's like changing absolutely nothing. (Although changing nothing worked for Alfred Hitchcock. ;)) |

| 830826 | 2009-11-17 20:53:00 | Well the article in PC world is 100% correct. The first letter gives advice about making MSWorks v4.5 compatible with Vista. It DOES work in vista & Windows 7 by using the method suggested, as proven by my screen shots. Of course there wont be the option to run in XP if you are already using XP :groan: The comment pcuserwinvista made is spot on. |
