2009-11-14 05:38:00 | Here 'tis! Google's Chrome OS project, first announced in July, will become available for download within a week, we've heard from a reliable source . Google previously said to expect an early version of the OS in the fall . What can we expect? Driver support will likely be a weak point . We've heard at various times that Google has a legion of engineers working on the not so glamorous task of building hardware drivers . And we've also heard conflicting rumors that Google is mostly relying on hardware manufacturers to create those drivers . Whatever the truth, and it's likely in between, having a robust set of functioning drivers is extremely important to Chrome OS's success . People will want to download this to whatever computer they use and have it just work . GIMMEE GIMMEE GIMMEE! Birdie num, nums .

2009-11-14 08:43:00 | It's based on Linux isn't it? Think so. I was reading an article a few weeks back - it was reported Bill gates made the comment - " just another Linux distro" Edited: Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel.

2009-11-14 09:22:00 | Yeah and so because of the fact it's based off Linux, means that Google *won't* be relying on hardware manufacturers to provide hardware support (Perhaps for advanced and currently unsupported features?) as it's already built in to the linux kernel. Sounds great for uber-low cost netbooks methinks!

2009-11-14 09:30:00 | Bill's against it? Good enough, I'm in. (Just put PCLinux OS on an Eee PC 701 4G, so I'm watching the case for bulges ;) )

2009-11-14 09:40:00 | There won't be much HDD space left on it now after PCLOS will there? :D Yeah I know it's probably never going to have 100% market penetration (naturally) but I know that aside from playing Warcraft 3, I could do pretty much everything from a browser ... I've got a NAS box I keep my files on, photos and whatnot, the WDTV Live for watching videos, and aside from that it's almost all web-based stuff (Or could easily be). Nice sig too R2x1 ;)

I doubt MS are to worried somehow. |
