We were always near the bottom but one networks Pre Paids are amongst the cheapest in the OECD they say. And it is not Telecom or Vodaphone. I wonder why Paul said Vodaphone were working on offering better pricing, but never did it. It is quite easy Just Drop The Rates Mate. |

Telecom offer "extras", one of which I have, where you pay $6 (or 600c) a month for 600 texts - effectively 1c per text. Something to think about. :) Edit: Even though I send less than that (maybe about 75), it still comes out to 8c per text. |

Probably 74 per month more than I do. :banana Had Telecom ring and ask had I considered changing to XT and offering a brilliant plan of $15/month and double the normal minutes at that price. When I told him my usage he lost interest. I only have a cellphone to receive texts about my school bus run. Ken |

Telecom will shut down the CDMA network in a few years. My grandparents both have fancy phones now, and they hardly use them! :) |

| 829485 | 2009-11-12 10:08:00 | I have tried Telecom mobile, they lied about every facet of the phone and the service when I signed up. For some strange reason I threw the phone at a seagull and switched to Vodafone, who provided a better service and a good phone. Alas, when it came to testing the warranty, Vodafone's agent (FIRST MOBILE< BIRKENHEAD>, Liars, cheats and thieves, worse on a bad day) provided an epic fail, shortly eclipsed by their ultimate-mega-fail with my first Vodem... the moment an alternate appeared in the form of 2deg appeared, I clutched at the proffered straw like a drowning man and have so far been very pleased. I guess people in remoter bits of the territory will not get instant "Whee!" like I did, but good things take time. When I send a TXT, it goes "right now" rather than the "sending" message the pathetic incumbents offer for varying approaches to their impression of eternity. Woosh were great until I moved out of their coverage area (That was in their early days, they were great.) Xnet have pleased me hugely, simply by doing good most of the time and not B.S.'ing when answering queries. 2 deg have been 100% in performance, and cheaper than I could have dreamed. IHUG were great (years ago) while I was with them, - but the big 2 ?? Pffttt. Garbage producing liars. They also have bad days: - - - on those days, the customers really get stick. Like a hooey without the culture. ;) PS, I don't like Telecom even a little bit, and Vodafone is not exactly flavour of the month either. If my bias shows, it is only because I have tried them, and they have sorely tried me. pps, Telecom are quite fast - their first phone had me hosed off within 12 seconds of getting the battery charged. |

The report also notes that its analysis of prepay plans is open to debate as it doesn't include things like Best Mate or Family and we will be working with the Commission to include those in future issues of the report (it's twice yearly I believe). All up it's a good report and it says what we've been saying all along: it's not regulation that makes changes to the market, it's competition and we've moved from two networks on differing technologies to three networks (albeit not all national networks) on the same technology base, with another six or seven MVNOs offering very good pricing. It's a competitive market and the customers will benefit because of it. Cheers Paul |

| 829487 | 2009-11-12 20:18:00 | Just noticed this: Mobile phone connections grew 3 per cent in the year to June, reaching 4.7 million, equating to a penetration rate of 109 per cent of the population. Why on earth would you need two phones? :stare: |

| 829488 | 2009-11-12 20:27:00 | Ah, that's where it gets misleading. They're not carrying two phones. Two Degrees' own research shows about 3% of users are carrying two phones but doesn't ask why (is one a work phone for instance). I have three or four depending on my mood but they're not phones, they're connections. One phone, one BlackBerry (usually not though), one Vodem stick, one netbook with an embedded chip. We don't measure number of phones, we measure number of connections and that's set to rise dramatically over the next few years as we get all kinds of devices connecting to the network. Burglar alarms and water meters are coming on stream now, for example. Is it a bad thing? I don't think so. Two Degrees clearly does though. |
