830001 2009-11-17 05:51:00 A few years ago when NZ played Aus at soccer, it was simply a case of "Our poms beat your poms - nah nah".
Does someone actually care about the score these days?

Hopefully as much when you hear a kiwi team beats an aussie team. Even if it is jelly wrestling.

830003 2009-11-17 06:52:00 Which country do you hail from Twelvevolts?

Obviously not a Kiwi methinks?

Ken

I think the football community is stronger here in Wellington and don't hear people calling football soccer, I note the Stuff site calls it football for example . Might be different up Jafaland way, I note the Herald calls it soccer . But would you trust anyone from West Auckland for an opinion, I gather drag racing is the only recognised sport out there .

It was a great night out on Saturday though, you wouldn't get that sort of response north of the Bombay Hills .

Rugby is boring, it is pretty well eclipsed by league which is a far more exciting sport, albeit not quite as good as football . The Air New Zealand Cup is a dead loss, no one even seems to watch it anymore . If it weren't for the Super 14 I doubt I'd ever watch it .

That depends on how long your memory is.

The Miramar Rangers Football Club describes its beginnings

"Although the Miramar Rangers Soccer Club was founded in 1907, it wasn't until the 1920s that the Club slowly built up membership. In 1930 the Club won the Wellington third grade competition to enter the Second Division. The Club remained in the second tier of Wellington competition up to the war years."

The URL of the Capital Football web site is www.soccer.org.nz/

Blame that on the Herald :D

830005 2009-11-17 08:29:00 Can we all at least agree it's called acting. The hollywoods are universal in any language. I must admit in my brief viewing it seems the Bahrainian team were very well schooled in the art of rolling around on the ground clutching at an imaginary pain. Not so much the Kiwi's. sam m (517)

Nope .

Lets think, did any football team use blood pills?
the_bogan (9949)
830007 2009-11-17 16:26:00 Do you have any other examples? I can give you another - Andy Haden lineout jump. Can you think of another?

Soccer players dont need blood pills to come off the field, they just have a tear in their eye which is enough for the stretcher to come out.

830008 2009-11-17 17:58:00 I was brought up to believe only gays played soccer in New Zealand so its popularity in Wellington does not surprise me.
New Zealand is a rugby (footie) nation.

Perhaps it's the reason chaps here have knuckles that touch the ground?

830010 2009-11-18 04:28:00 The irony for Prefect is that Auckland and Waitakere are pretty much the strongest teams in New Zealand for Football. the_bogan (9949)
