Americans go and call it soccer because they adopted the word football for another game as did some people who picked up the ball and ran with it in England. Everyone I know calls the round ball game football and I've played the game for about 45 years. We're not in the United States, it's football, rugby and league here, although each code tends to say footy by way of an abbreviation. Call it what you like but here in NZ as long as I've been alive it's been called soccer. You sound like the footwear language police back in the 1990s who tried to get the common use word Jandel band and replaced with Thong from Australia. didn't work so i suspect your crusade to call soccer football will fail here as well as football is the common term for rugby and League in NZ and in Australia. Hell in Australia soccer is still called Wogball. |

| 829998 | 2009-11-17 02:18:00 | The game is actually association Football. en.wikipedia.org I might add, that if some idiot at Rugby in the UK had not picked up the ball in the first place while playing, then we would not have the confusion that now abounds and with constant rule changes to make these games more of a spectator sport and etc. |
