829697 2009-11-13 05:51:00 When I go to work or up town I have to drive through an intersection where I have to turn right. There are usually alot of left turning cars coming the other way and they give way to me and when a car is coming the other way and is driving strait through I give way to them and cars turning left are free to do so. No problems. Driving 40+ years.

829698 2009-11-13 06:20:00 Just because you can do something doesn't mean there is no room for improvement.

Hell, I can hit a nail in with a rock, But a hammer works just that little bit better.

That aside, Nearly every professionol driver I have worked with hates the rule, Not because they struggle with it, But due to all the other numbnuts who either fail to give way or give way when they aren't meant to.

829699 2009-11-13 06:27:00 I read this today... bit of a coincidence really!!

The New Zealand Road Transport (NZRT) representative (Andy Knackerhead) said today that plans were in place to change the current righthand rule laws back to the 1974 standard in order to bring into line Aotearort, New Zealand, with the rest of the world. The new laws are set out below for people to study.

The NZRT realise the problems involved in the changeover so it is to take place on the first Sunday in December to minimise the disruption.

They also realise that a large percentage of New Zealanders will have difficulty with the new rules, so have decided to delay the changeover for heavy traffic till the second Sunday in December.

They hope people will study the new rules and that the changeover will go smoothly.

829700 2009-11-13 06:40:00 Personally I don't have a problem with the rule. But I worry about overseas visitors not getting used to it.

More problematic is some of the rules in other parts of the world, eg the hook turn - I struggle to understand it.

829701 2009-11-13 07:04:00 No. You're completely and utterly wrong. Red has right of way over blue, but unless they're a moron they give way to the yellow car. Blue uses mirrors properly, sees yellow, sees that red isn't going to go, and everyone goes in the correct order. It's seriously not that difficult. If you can't figure this out, you need to downgrade back to oz.
x2
its easy and very rarly needs to be used. but then again half the people don't read signs anyway let alone know what the rules are to start with.

Honestly, when the light turn green at an intersection in NZ, there is a full second pause when everyone is just too scared to move a muscle.
What the **** are you doing on our roads without knowing our road rules. On a light turning green, drivers waiting must check that the way is clear before proceeding into the intersection. This may indeed take a full second.
nah, its they only go slow because morons run red lights so much you will be killed if you go soon as the light goes green. its just a life saving tactic due to police head in the sand approach to traffic law enforcement.
remember by the time the light goes green all the other roads have been sitting on red for a second anyway.

Ah. But still isn't that more dangerous for them?
