1119189 2010-07-15 21:26:00 I wonder if Sync Toy is what I need to keep archived files safe off in another drive. It seems kinda slow and it has to be turned on all the time - at least I haven't seen any way to make it boot on start-up or at the end of my web-day.

Any thoughts or am I missing a setting somewhere that will enable it to do the sync automatically when I want it to?

1119190 2010-07-15 21:40:00 hey Joe, long time no see Where ya been :)

Anyways-- AFAIK synctoy doesn't have a scheduler, But This article ( . mydigitallife . info/2008/01/01/schedule-synctoy-to-run-and-automatically-and-repetitively/" target="_blank">www . mydigitallife . info) tells you how to set it up so it will run when you want .

Personally I use fbackup (http://www . fbackup . com/) - has a scheduler, will back up to almost any source as long as the PC is turned on and the source is available Eg: backup drive plugged in .

One thing I like about it, is it saves backups in a zip file, so any PC can open the files that has a zipping program if needed .

Many other backup programs save in their own format, requiring the program to be installed Eg: backup genie

Thanks for asking . Been pretty sick for a while and just getting back to things that interest me right now . Been playing bass in jams at a fire station and at some studio work - but taking it rea-a-al easy for the past few months .

Good to know about that other prgm though . I guess I can dump this and get the archive hdd all reformatted and start new with something that makes it easier to access without proprietary software - eg: zipped files .

One last thing: can it be shared with other 'puters on my local wifi network? If not - will it share on hardwire?

Yeah! Old friends - even those in places that are inverted - and some good music is always a tonic for the soul. Beer and fine food will be next.

Thanks.

I'll go over to the other side and see what hornet's nest I can stir there.

1119194 2010-07-16 08:23:00 I used to use Synctoy but switched to syncback free as it allows scheduling and is very easy to set up and use gary67 (56)
