I remember when Electrocorp was privatised PM Bolger and SOE Minister Max Bradford swore black and blue that electricity prices to domestic users would come down. Well, we all know what happened.

There is nothing wrong with ACC, they collected more than they spent last year and have 11 Billion in reserves (a cynic would say National want that reserve money :annoyed: )

ACC runs more efficiently than the australian privatised insurance (lower overheads) certainly far better than the american system. A private company is there to make a profit you have to pay for that profit somehow.

Higher cost to the consumer - no better service.(14% ROI)
What makes anyone think ACC will be better privatised -
Higher Costs - to accommodate profit - delays in payouts and tougher claim criteria.
Anyone who has had to deal with an Insurance Company on accident and injury, and has experienced their reluctance to pay out - would not opt for going back to that -
Insurance companies are about profit - meeting claims are expenses - to increase profits when increasing revenue is not an easy option - Reduce expenses.
For all its faults and the many who rort the system, it beats hands down any private insurance scheme.
