I do work for one company that has a sign saying anyone caught smoking here (by the entrance doors) is grounds for instant dismissal. Would they have a snowballs chance in hell if an employee lit a butt up by the door? |

The situation would be no different if the employee was drunk and chopping down a tree, or hadn't slept for 36 hours and was trying to drive a truck. It may not be different, but it is. Any person using illegal substances can be prosecuted, as far as I understand it (am I wrong?). And surely using illicit should be more severely punished than those who are drunk (or lack of sleep for that matter), but I agree they too should be punished. Why are drugs taken so lightly I will never understand. If it's illegal, it's illegal it's as simple as that. |

The Court isn't stupid, it is enforcing the rules the company put in place. How hard is it to follow your own policy? The answer though is to give the guy a higher tree to cut next time. |
