1118962 2010-07-15 21:50:00 I just found a YouTube vid of Crysis running at max settings on a pc very similar to the one I put together and it was running at 25-45 FPS (without FRAPs) which seems pretty decent.

Thanks, VendettaSteel

where does it tell you that it is running at 25-45 FPS?? if the frame rate varies that much you will notice it in the game and that is very annoying, the picture will go from smooth to jittery.....i know that from my personal experience..

1118963 2010-07-15 22:10:00 Hey guys, I just threw together a PC on Dell's website and I was wondering how well it would be able to play recent games and what sort of framerates I could expect for, say, Crysis at max settings. It is a Dell XPS Studio 8100 and I will list the specs below:

Processor - Intel Core i7-860 Processor (2.80GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 8MB Cache)
Memory - 4GB RAM
Hard Drive - 1TB
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Price - $1,985

Thanks in advance, VendettaSteel

You forgot the most important thing when asking a question like this....The monitor resolution! You will be fine with this setup if you only game at 800x600, however I imagine your screen is a lot bigger!

1118964 2010-07-15 22:29:00 Why not build it yourself?

Individual warranty on parts that way. Much easier to replace.

1118965 2010-07-15 22:59:00 Thanks for the help, just wondering if swapping the core i7 out for a core i5 650/660? VendettaSteel (15813)

In the video the guy is using fraps and the game is only running at 20-30 FPS but without Fraps (in the description) it would run at 25-45 FPS.

I will be running at 1600 X 900, 16:9.

The card will struggle then....!, you need at least 5850, better off with 5870 to get yourself some headroom

1118969 2010-07-15 23:28:00 no on swapping the cpu out for a 650 or 660. They're dual cores with hyper threading, not true quad cores. Go for either the i5 750, or stick with the i7. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)

Yea cant see it listed what resolution that guy is running at in that youtube vid but think its pretty low. At a modest 1600x900 you will have to turn down eye candy in some games esp Crysis with a 5770 GPU.

As above consider knocking back your processor to a I5 and beefing up your video card if gaming is your main focus.

Forget it.
