1118581 2010-07-14 01:45:00 People don't use air compressors these days?

I don't, I don't have one. You have to be careful with those, if the pressure is too high you can end up blasting components off boards.

1118582 2010-07-14 02:24:00 Yesterday I had my computer professionaly cleaned. Fans removed and washed etc.

sounds bogus.
Tell them they have damaged a fan & you want it replaced.
Find out exactly how they 'wash/clean' the fans

1118583 2010-07-14 03:11:00 Fixed ! A four pin plug on the wrong header !

What made me laugh was the fact that the chap who did the clean was the same one who built the computer . So even "experts" make mistakes .

The fans were removed and washed in warm soapy water . No vacuums for these boys .

Thanks for all responses . :thanks

1118584 2010-07-14 03:57:00 Have to say I have plugged it into the wrong spot before, although as soon as you see that error, you know.
Didn't he boot it after to check all was well?

1118585 2010-07-14 04:47:00 I "lost" my CPU fan plug once, it was hiding smack under the cooling block I put on, the original was a lot smaller and didn't cover it The Error Guy (14052)

What the F? is that even worth the effort? a few hours labour cleaning old fans or 10 minutes + the cost of a set of new fans?

I got a box of 120mm fans (4 in a box) for like 30 bucks

...With a normal compressor, that might happen if the components were attached with a glue stick.

Well you go and try it on your motherboard but don't come crying when you blast some SMD parts off it.

They are held on by solder, and a drop of glue (sometimes), and not much of it at that. And solder is only for good electrical connections, it's not designed to make a strong physical connection.
