| 1119325 | 2010-07-16 01:15:00 | Hi, I am looking for a step by step guide on how to setup a peer to peer network using XP that includes steps to disable simple file sharing and setting permissions. I've tried google for ¾ of an hour, I've tried looking on this forum. There must be a quick way to do this instead writing one up from scratch. Many thanks! |

| 1119326 | 2010-07-16 01:18:00 | Its easier using simple file sharing, than it is using permissions. I take it you're using XP Pro, since Home doesnt have / support permissions. HOW are you connecting whatever? Through a router / hub, or to each other? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1119327 | 2010-07-16 01:23:00 | I want to setup permissions hence the reason I don't want to use simple file sharing, the small network will involve two pcs running xp pro and connected via a switch | Knuth (15845) | ||

You may want to change your computer name also so you can identify easier and maybe add a description . Right click networking and just have TCP/IP and Windows Client I think . If on wireless there might be one other I think - least on mine that is . But you don't need Netbios NWLINkK and stuff . In terms of sharing the files, all you do is right click the folder or drive and go to advanced sharing (?) and maybe ad the recipeints into your list . If you want to disable simple sharing . Open up My Computer - Tools Menu - Folder Options - check on the list . You may also need to go to Control Panel - Users is it or Systems and make sure everyone needs to login before they can get into Windows if you want that way . |

I find it very hard to believe that you really spent 45 mins with Google and got nowhere - there are hundreds if not thousands of good guides available online. If you can't find them, I strongly suggest you check out the closest equivalent to 'Google for Dummies' that your library has available, and actually read it. Having us spoonfeed you homework answers will get you nowhere, and you'll end up failing your course. Edit Speedy & Nomad, I take my hat off to you - you're being far more charitable than this guy deserves. |
