| 1119246 | 2010-07-16 00:05:00 | I have Win7 with NTFS file system and on my internal HDDs I have a number of .avi files. I also have a Seagate 1T external HDD with a NTFS file system. I have copied the .avi files to the Seagate and to play them I have purchased a Philips DVP3360 DVD player. However, when I try to connect the Seagate to the Philips, the Philips does not recognise the Seagate. However, if I copy a file to a USB memory stick, no problems, the Phiilps will play the file. Anyone have any ideas what I have to do to get the Seagate and the Philips talking? The reason I mention the NTFS file system is that the Philips manual states "The contents of the USB flash drive cannot be read if the drive is formatted with a different system that is not supported by this DVD player (eg NTFS)". Therefore, as I can play a USB memory stick (FAT32) but not the Seagate, does that mean that I should format the Seagate to FAT32? If so, will that cause any problems with the Seagate drive? |

| 1119247 | 2010-07-16 00:16:00 | You'll have to use a 3rd party program to convert the hdd back to FAT32. I dont think the USB port on it, is for hdd's just flash drives. So, even if you convert the hdd to FAT32 it wont work And then you'll have to convert the AVI file to a format it can play (since, according to the manual online, it'll only recognise WMA, DIVX, JPEG, and MP3). Unless you burn the AVI files with movie maker (which you can download separately for Win7) |

| 1119249 | 2010-07-16 00:39:00 | I got my external HDD to work with my xbox, and they suffer the same problem - they don't recognise extra partitions or non fat 32 file systems. Just format the drives in command prompt. start, run, "cmd". format X: /x /fs: fat32 X: is your driveletter. /x dismounts the volume so nothing is accessing it. It's a rather useful command. That should be the command anyway. Been a while since I last formatted anything. You can do the same to make flash drives use the ntfs file system. |

| 1119250 | 2010-07-16 03:21:00 | Thanks for that 8ftmetalhead but I,m afraid it did not work. I formatted to Fat32 and copied over a small .avi. Both in NTFS and Fat32, the DVD player shows "empty card" meaning that the DVD player cannot find any data on the external HDD in the USB mode. Anyone got any other ideas please? |

| 1119253 | 2010-07-17 00:37:00 | I recall a mod forum where members "flashed" the firmware of their dvd players by downloading files, burning to discs then insert in their players to allow reading of other formats, amongst other enhancements. Altering firmware was the only way it seemed to get their players to play other formats. Note I'm not saying to do that, but I think it's a possibility if remote. | kahawai chaser (3545) | ||

| 1119255 | 2010-07-17 08:36:00 | Hi Bryan! What you're trying to do with your 3360 ought to work. I'm using HDD's ( 2.5 & 3.5) on my 3254 & 5990, both from Philips. These devices DONT support NTFS. They do support multiple logical disks on the one physical disk. There are restrictions in respect of number of folders/files. - cant remember them of the top of my head, so have a prowl around here - http://blog.techflaws.org/ Also I use firmware from this guy in both my devices - vb6rocod.lx.ro Yes - Romania.
