| 832945 | 2009-12-01 01:14:00 | According to the rules a person in the affirmative team has failed to post by the time specified and therefore should forfeit their turn. - Each speaker must make their post by 11:59pm on the day after the previous post is made - i.e. a maximum 24hr turnaround time. If speakers are unable to meet this deadline, they would be assumed to have forfeited their turn. This does not say that the affirmative team loses the debate by default however. As there is no second speaker for the affirmative I would suggest other options. The order was in the rules and defined here:- "Posting must alternate between teams - i.e. First Affirmative, First Negative, Second Affirmative, Second Negative, followed by Negative Summary, Affirmative Summary (speaking order reversed as per convention). - New substantive points may not be introduced in the final concluding/summarising posts." Options we have:- I will take the place of the second speaker and make a post by 23:59 on 2nd or 3rd Dec 2009 rebutting the second negative and maybe bringing up new points. This would depend on how long it takes to sort out whether the debate continues. This would be a team of one vs a team of two. or The second affirmative forgoes speaking at all and the second negative posts next. or The affirmative lose the debate by default. or There is no more debate and we open the voting now which in my view would be very unfair to Eryad who I'm reasonably sure has very good points to make. I am surprised that with all the members PressF1 have and many who have expressed opinions do not seem to want to get into a formal debate on either side in a subject that I thought would be dear to their heart. |
