832698 2009-11-23 20:16:00 It sends a message out to aircrew (pilots and cabin crew) of Air New Zealand bottle to throttle time should be 12 hours or longer if seriously on the piss.
Air NZ did the right thing fire first and let the courts sort it out whether they should tolerate piss freaks in the company.

832699 2009-11-23 22:05:00 Sure did. Air NZ was looking to get rid of staff and anything they found that was Air NZ property was reason enough to fire you..

Doesn't it seem ridiculous that somebody would get sacked for just having a Air NZ pen. I wonder if more airlines have sacked people inregards to stealing pens or anything else.

832700 2009-11-24 06:44:00 Get used to it - when the wowsers at the Sensible Sentencing Trust get their way, you be over the limit with a half a small glass of shandy, and of course the righteous will want you to lose your job, be locked up for ten years and working on a chain gang.

I'm not for drink drivers as we all know the well oiled drivers kill innocent people, but we're starting to target people who have not had a lot to drink whilst some other well pissed people seem to be getting away with murder.

Mind you the SST is taking a very weird turn just lately, I heard one of their sympathisers say that one in four women are victims of incest. I thought we kicked this nonsense into touch years ago but looks like the SST wants to bring it back. And they have the nerve to call people politically correct when they're nothing but socialist do gooders.

The women from Air New Zealand didn't even realise she was drinking and driving from all accounts, she should have been fined and lost her license, but losing her job is way over the top and her employer lacks empathy for someone who evidently had a perfect record. This is what we've come to with this SST nonsense.

832701 2009-11-24 06:59:00 Knowing we have the SST out there doing stuff to put filthy scum crooks in jail longer makes me sleep soundly.
Aviation and piss are not a good mix, if she did actually turn up to a plane and got potted she should do some jail time.

I guess you'd ban drinking on planes by passengers as well, why not go a step further and bring in prohibition. Yeah that would work.

832703 2009-11-24 07:15:00 Cant see anyone sane arguing against sober aircrew on a plane.
They would have to be a nobber.
Dont really want Aeroflot carryons from the sixties and seventies with glass cockpits of todays aircraft.
I have seen a Rumanian helicopter pilot pissing up to 4 in the morning and flying at 7.

832704 2009-11-24 07:20:00 Air crew should be sober for sure, but this person doesn't appear to have been drunk, didn't feel affected by alcohol, and didn't deliberately transgress, and wasn't a pilot. I reckon it is possible to be over the limit and not realise the next morning, in fact judging by the recent comments from the Police they are catching quite a few driving to work the day after Xmas parties, so really it is a danger to be aware of if you drive to work.

I take the train, fortunately you can still take one of those after a beer or two.

832705 2009-11-24 07:26:00 I must try the wacko 12 vdc defence if the plods catch me.
See officer I dont appear to be drunk I havent transgressed and I am not a pilot so your reading on the breathmeter is irrelevant let me go.
People here have known for 30 yrs they could fail a breath test after a night on turps its not a revelation.

Didn't say it was an offence which should be punished by the Court, rather a mitigation as to the penalty that should be imposed. If you've ever been in a Court, that's how they work. Certainly jail time for that would be ridiculous.

You've probably got your bus drivers on split shifts. How much do you know about where they spend their lunch breaks?
