832581 2009-11-22 23:57:00 My two wee nephews have just moved back to Perth today, and I want to get mum and dad an early Xmas present (money no object) - very sad times at their house. :crying

I saw a friend's one recently that had software that let you look like a pirate or lion etc, which I'm sure the boys would love.

And which app is best for video calls? Skype or the Gmail client, or something else?

832582 2009-11-23 00:17:00 The lifecam (the program for it), I've got, has different options. Like clown, big nose, big mouth, small/big eyes, rabbit, pink hair, cowboy, dog cat and a few others Speedy Gonzales (78)
832583 2009-11-23 01:25:00 Depending on how much you're willing to spend, I've found the Logitech 9000 to be an exceptional webcam which works well even in low light conditions. I used one several months ago to do international videoconferencing over Skype between here and North America + Europe. It is quite expensive though, but it's well worth it. somebody (208)
832584 2009-11-23 01:36:00 Well, I had the Logitech 9000, and I kept dropping Skype calls between here and south Western Australia.

I bought a microphone so that sound was no longer managed by the camera (on someone's recommendation), and there was no improvement. I could get about 30 seconds into a call and then I would get cut off.

I subsequently bought a Microsoft Lifecam, and have had no dropped calls since then.

I don't know if it is a coincidence, but there you go.

832585 2009-11-23 01:37:00 Am looking at this (www.playtech.co.nz), but if there's no appreciable difference between 2.0MP and 1.3MP, then this (www.playtech.co.nz) is a cheaper option? nofam (9009)
832586 2009-11-23 01:57:00 Both those cameras seem to go up to 30 frames per sec which is an important point. Not much difference between 1.3 and 2.0 in my opinion. Sweep (90)
832587 2009-11-23 02:24:00 The QC C500 is more than adequate. 1.3mp is plenty, it's pretty much always the internet connection that governs the call quality. wratterus (105)
832588 2009-11-24 13:33:00 More than happy with my Logitech 9000
No problems with Skype & using it regularly to Hong Kong and Europe.
