2010-07-23 12:59:00 | Win7, XP and 2000 OS all wanting to share a printer. Can share fine from 2000 but no driver for 64bit Win 7 install. Plugged directly into Win 7 and loaded driver but when shared 2000 and XP will not load or find driver. I have the 32 bit CD that came with printer and when trying to add additional drivers says driver not file found. Printer is USB Canon s6300. Any work around? This is an older printer so may not work.

2010-07-23 13:06:00 | If there's no 64 bit driver for win7 (if its 64 bit). Then it wont work, and 32 bit drivers wont work. So, which OS is the printer connected to?? 2000? There's something for x64 here (software.canon-europe.com). Did you install the drivers for 2k and XP, on the computers with 2K, and XP??

2010-07-23 13:14:00 | Win 7 is 64bit and installs driver fine from net and prints OK. When adding the network printer on the 2000 or XP machines (32bit) it of course say no driver installed on the Win7 and browse for driver. Now the 200 had the printer installed on it so a USB driver is installed but still will not find it either on the HD drive or CD. XP has same issue but printer never been installed on it before. Yes have downloaded latest driver from Canon but no go. Had the same issue on another setup where Server 2008 would not supply a driver to the clients but would work fine when plugged into Win 7 64bit. Just shared it from Win 7 and it works on Win 7 32 bit and Server 2008 32bit.

2010-07-23 13:26:00 | If all are connected to the net now. I can check 2k and XP if you want with teamviewer. Thats if you've installed the drivers on Win7 now and shared the printer (you did right mouse on the printer (if its connected to the Win7 PC in control panel / device and printers), then printer properties / sharing tab? Then add printer in either 2k or XP / then selected network printer (not local printer)?? Have all of the PC's got the same workgroup name?

2010-07-24 02:26:00 | Printer shared and other OS can see it. Can't install driver for shared printer even though printer was installed on the 2000 OS via USB before changing printer to Win 7. Needs a different driver for netowork than for USB. | berryb (99) | |
2010-07-24 02:30:00 | Well I cant figure out what you've done / haven't done. Get teamviewer. And I can check what you've done with XP and 2k (if the printer is connected to Win7 atm) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-07-25 02:14:00 | Maybe I need to be clearer. Canon s6300 was installed via USB on Win 2000. Was not shared at any point. Now have Win 7 64bit Pro and installed printer on this. Win 7 went off on the net and downloaded the driver. Printer worked. Shared the printer and the Win 2000 PC can see it but will not load a driver as Win 7 doesn't have one installed for it. Have tried to load the driver on Win 7 and it will not find the driver on the CD or from a downloaded driver. From the Win 200 PC tried to use the browse to find driver and it will not find one on either the driver CD or the downloaded driver. Same result when trying to install the network printer on XP. I assume the printer is just not going to share from Win7 as they (XP and Win 2000)cannot find the driver for it. Now this doesn't surprise me but wondering if anyone had a work around.

2010-07-25 02:27:00 | Well instead of telling 2K or XP to find the driver (obviously it wont work). Either extract the 2K / XP file on XP and 2K. With something like Winzip (or 7zip, which is free). There maybe an inf file there somewhere Then go to add a printer (on 2K and XP), then point it to the folder you've just extracted (it needs an inf file, if there's one there). Add it that should be it Or install the 2K and XP printer driver, on the computers that have got XP and 2K on them (if the install includes programs as well, untick them if you dont want them). The drivers should still work by themselves

2010-07-25 03:23:00 | Thats the issue. As I said it does not install the driver from either the CD or the downlaoded driver I got from the net. The Win 2000 had the printer install so has the driver for USB on it but it doesn't work for when setting up via a network printer. I have pointed the install at the inf file but just says it is not correct for the printer. I don't think this printer will allow this to work. I have setup many networks with shared printers. I have either added the print driver to the print server or pointed the client to the correct inf file. This is not working in this case. Cheers

2010-07-25 04:11:00 | What if you add a printer from XP / 2K find the networked printer / select it?? Does it work?? Thats all I've ever had to do, with networking 2K/XP/Vista and Win7, with this printer. I've either done the above, or like my previous post
