1120714 2010-07-20 09:38:00 Does anyone have recommendations for a gaming graphics card on a budget $200 or lower. Used mainly for FPS games and some RTS's like AOE. Also some editors like sandbox and gmod. icow (15313)
1120715 2010-07-20 09:43:00 At what resolution? New, there isn't much option at all....a 4850 is still kinda decent. Other than that, not much really. qazwsxokmijn (102)
1120716 2010-07-20 09:45:00 Your on a tight budget, the best you can get for about $200 which would be a bit future proof would be either:
ATI 5750 - $225.00
or
ATI 5770 - $275.00

If you are not interested in new games:
ATI 5670 - $195.00 or $159.00 for 512mb version
However this is not a brilliant card but should do for AOE and source games.
(Prices from computerlounge)

It is hard to find the older 4xxx models in New Zealand now though.

What?, no nVidia recommendations?

1120719 2010-07-21 07:16:00 Because someone else would be much better at Nvidia as I know less about Nvidia than ATI. I would rather recommend something I actually understand.

Also for a budget about $200 I think it is easier to get a decent ATI than nVidia in New Zealand.

4 Gb RAM
3.2ghz Phenom Core X2
Windows XP (to be upgraded to 7)
80gb HD (to be upgraded to 1tb)

Resolution will depend on game (higher than 640x800 for all games)

1120721 2010-07-21 12:55:00 You can get a 4870 1GB for a mere $240 and it is an awesome card for the money, I have my old one in my HTPC and can play Batman AA, Dirt 2, GRID all maxed at 1080p Deimos (5715)
1120722 2010-07-21 21:31:00 Yeah, for $200 budget, you really are restricted to older generation cards, as low end current generation cards arent going to cut it for gaming....
4870 is a great card
