No, they don't.

AM2\AM2+ CPUs don't have the DDR3 memory controller that an AM3 board expects for a start, and the pinout won't actually let you put it in the socket either.

But yes, you can run AM3 CPUs on most AM2\AM2+ boards because the AM3 CPU has both DDR3 and DDR2 memory support, provided there is a BIOS upgrade which can support the CPU (and the VRMs can tolerate the power requirement if it is a 125 or 140 Watt CPU)

1121026 2010-07-22 09:29:00 Yeah AM3 CPUs have one less pin than AM2/AM2+. Are any of you guys in Christchurch, and willing to let me borrow a video card just to check that it's not my vid card causing problems? sammo450 (13626)
1121027 2010-07-22 21:25:00 Yeah I can lend you a card for a couple of days.
PM your details.

I believe Asus is a parent company, its not re branding, sound like semantics but there is a diff.

Asus needed to compete with the likes of ECS and Foxconn without hurting the Asus brand. If you ask me they went to far Asrock is utter rubbish.

1121030 2010-07-22 23:42:00 We have predominantly Asus and Gigabyte here at work, i have had failures on both. They would still be my pick as the best. Gobe1 (6290)
1121031 2010-07-24 11:04:00 Thanks to DeSade, I've tried a 7600 with my 9600 in the x16 slots and it is working, which is kind of odd. Although my PC has only recognised the presence of the 9600. sammo450 (13626)
