| 1120923 | 2010-07-22 20:54:00 | NOD32: poor spyware/malware detection KAV: doesnt seem as good at detection as a year ago.I stopped using it Avir: good, but too many false positives Malwarebytes: good but need a AV scanner as well Hijack this: allways used(last) for the final cleanup Because people persist in thinking one program will do it all. Nothing is all-in-one. NOD is an excellent AV. AS is another matter. One AV and at least 2 ASs. |

One AV and at least 2 ASs. x2  I often find the computers with the most infections are the ones that have so called "all in ones" -- Norton / McAfee Suites, classic example = Rubbish. |

| 1120925 | 2010-07-22 22:34:00 | I see that the latest PC User mag highly recommends Nortons or McAfee. I wonder how much the backhanders to PC User are worth? Don't think I'll be buying THAT magazine again if I am looking for reliable information! Bunch of bloody turkeys. |

| 1120926 | 2010-07-22 23:36:00 | One feature from Avast i really like and miss now i have Nod is the screensaver. It scans your pc when you are NOT using it. Excellent for the office as most users hate the antivirus slowing their pc down when they are trying to work. I wish other antivirus makers would add this feature |

In fact most things are better than ZoneAlarm... Depending on your level of paranoia you may wish to turn the Defense+ off as you may go insane otherwise. |

| 1120929 | 2010-07-23 02:48:00 | also why is pcworld magazine praising Nortons? in quite a few issues they have praised nortons Because they dont do real world testing over a few months, on real world(ie underpowered) PC's. They often actually get 3rd party labs to do the testing for them (sometimes they will admit this in the articles) I did hear a quote from one of the US PC mag's tech writers saying he would NEVER install anything that couldnt easily be uninstalled:when asked about Norton/symantec AV I have never had a customer ask me to reinstall Norton after they saw how much better the PC ran without it (and another AV installed). |

| 1120930 | 2010-07-23 08:30:00 | I thank all who replied to my query, very much appreciated. So it will be MSSE, Malwarebytes, spybot and Superantispyware. All kept updated and scans run weekly. Will be more vigilant and suspicious of any non-kosher items that may come visiting. Cheers. |

| 1120932 | 2010-07-23 09:13:00 | Hi Speedy, Thanks for that. One question; what is tea-timer and where do I find and disable it? I vaguely remember seeing it but as the box was not ticked, never gave it another thought.:thanks |
