835132 2009-12-09 02:45:00 I agree Cicero, its beats me how the minority run the country.

Leaving climate Change for the moment, think back to the Anti Smacking referendum. 87% of the population voted (in a perfectly legitimate referendum) that the law was a nonsense. Did the government take a blind bit of notice? Not likely, they employed some Spin Doctor to find that the law was working well. Off course the parameters and calculations for this assertion will always remain a mystery.

But look at government itself. How many politicians do we have running the country that were never voted in by the people and probably wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of ever being voted in? Does anybody know?

Getting back to Climate Change, I too think it is a fait accompli that Carbon Tax will be introduced which will just increase the cost of everything whilst a few fat cats clip the ticket and not make a blind bit of difference to the climate.

835133 2009-12-09 02:56:00 Our government takes no notice anyway apart from bowing down to the world government.

So those that vote in NZ?

Well, I wouldn't put much faith in Wishart - he believs in the literal truth of the Bible.

835138 2009-12-09 10:42:00 Didn’t anyone watch Close Up on Climate Change last night. :)

Quite good, it had Gareth Morgan in the “For” corner and Ian Wishart in the “Against” corner.

Both of them made good sense.

Both agreed that Michael Mann and his hockey stick were a fraud.

Wishart pointed out readings were logged from a station in Australia going back to the 1960’s when the station wasn’t built until the 1990’s.

He then read an E-Mail from a guy who was supposed to build the numbers into a model. He refused and quit amongst rude utterances.

Both agreed there has been some very bad behaviour by both sides.

Morgan made the point that the Data that is in his book was supposedly correct as at the end of 2008, indicating he wouldn’t state his life on it now.

Morgan also quite rightly distanced himself from Carbon Credit trading stating that Global Warming and Carbon Taxes were two different things.

Interestingly, when asked what he thought the outcome of Copenhagen would be, he replied that “whatever USA and China agreed to would be it”.

Not a bad summing up in my view.

However, they had a public pole on who the public at large believed and Sainsbury was visibly shaken when the numbers came up 77% for Wishart and 23% for Morgan.

I note also that the result of the poll has been suppressed, can’t be found on TV One website as it obviously didn’t please management or the government.

Yes, just seen it (was out at twiliight golf).....terrible out there!..anyway, spot on...Morgan dint have anything but his argument, ...............of balancing out the fact?...WTF!

Even if NZ had a carbon neutral footprint from tomorrow on, it would do nothing towards arresting a 1m tide increase. Wouldn't you rather any investment be towards reaction, not bugger, did you see which way the horse fled?

We need the forest's back,3rd world countries in the last 50 yrs hved decimated over 1/3 of the world tree's, that's why there is such a high co2 concentration than what could be expected from natural GW IMO

835139 2009-12-09 18:41:00 I see the panic figures for the last decade in NZ, a whole .05 of a degree increase.

Checking NIWAs site apparently Southland last summer, the temps were above average.
Funny, we didn't even get a summer, the corn failed, tomatoes wouldn't ripen, snow on 5th November etc.

You too .

Take a look at this . Papamoa Beach Holiday Camp (Mount Maunganui) .

Instead of surfing they were snowboarding down the sand dunes onto the beach .

Snow here has never previously been seen in living memory .

The eminent Scientists that predicted back in 1974 we were moving into another Ice Age might have been nearer the mark . ;)
