834828 2010-01-04 06:32:00 I think it will be updates of what we already have integrated into other common appliances.

We seen the tv being computerised with wifi and stuff. Maybe more IP phones, perhaps the house is rigged up how we can turn lights on and curtains with it or by voice or via the net. Maybe thinner TVs maybe roll away TVs like blinds.

From 2000, we didn't see that much, broadband was taken up by more individuals, we got that just 3yr ago, still on 256k speed, and pretty much the same stuff with the new LCDs and BlueRay that didn't really take off. My laptop was from 2000, my main PC still using WinXP that is 2001 isn't it. We are still using a CRT TV since it is still working, save the money instead of endless upgrading. Dad still has my phone that I got in 1999. My modern one is a gimmick, don't use 99.9% of the features.

Broadband hasn't gone down a cent. AFAIK BB speed hasn't improved in my place since the Xtra Extraodinaries and all the other investments involved.

Maybe battery powerderd cars, maybe user profiles to the car etc like seating and mirror arrangements ... we now have USB stereos in car. Many would still stick to their old cars or get other old cars b/c a new car is too expensive other than those who are buying brand new cars. Maybe 20yrs we see more of a change ..

834829 2010-01-04 06:41:00 Look at netbooks. Nothing more than a slimmed-down notebook, cheap n cheerful processor, enough ram to get by, and a reasonable processor, with an SSD drive thrown in for good measure (again, just a big ol' flash chip, with better read/write speeds).

It's not really the technology, it's how we use it. Even if we get some super-duper jaw-breaking new component, it'll just get incorporated into the same ol' stuff. Look at the much-hyped memristor, sure it looks great as a concept. It'll just end up in netbooks, laptops, desktops, the usual, and if the memory density gets to a good ratio, iPods, etc.

My current laptop was 2000, bought 1yr used. That weights similar to a Netbook, 1.2kg with battery, under 1kg without. It is the same thickness and width (left to right) but the Netbook has a wider screen and less top to down measurement. Not exactly a breakthrough. Being a light traveler, the power charger would weight a good 300-400g and not small.

I regret chasing tech now, as a child I was chasing the latest window or dos version. Or that $1,000 DVD player and that $1,500 24" CRT TV.

I like to see a iTouch design laptop or TV in that super slim design. Not sure if will happen thou and foldable design.

834832 2010-01-04 07:58:00 Maybe someone can design a home computer that fixes itself from software glitches instead of having to ask pc help forums.
I envisage a button on the keyboard which you press and it will do an os repair.
Any other probs you talk into a microphone with your problem and speech recognition software will understand and come back with an answer and it will never give up until problem fixed.

Meantime, you could go and live with PCtech!

834834 2010-01-04 08:16:00 A new brain implant every three years maybe.

Fully updated so everyone knows everything as they think they do now.

Of course there is a point. All people will know everything and therefore all people will make the right choices given the same circumstances and there will be no debate as all people will agree with all other people except for the ones who can't be bothered updating their brain every 24 hours.

Simple enough I would have thought.

Oh wait. We update windows and it is still wrong except for those for whom it works.
