| 834309 | 2009-11-29 03:14:00 | What is it that you are trying to do Thomas01? I honestly don't know what I can add to my previous entries on this thread. I would like to try to have a good simple menu system instead of the clutter of DESKTOP. I don't want a file manager. I have the feeling that anybody who didn't have a computer 10 years ago will probably not know what a simple text based menu system looks like. But imagine a page for all my drafting programs etc all in nice alphabetical order. And another page for my photographs and the umpteen programs I have for them and so on. I do feel after the suggestions that have already been made and the remarks in the various replies that I am probably (once again) asking for something that doesn't exist. A bit like hoping for an updated copy of DCWIN drafting program. It aint gonna happen. Tom |

| 834311 | 2009-11-29 08:01:00 | Ah, DraftChoice. And QuikMenu. They could just about run on a digital watch these days. Yep. I still have uses for DraftChoice but its a long time since I used Quikmenu. I can claim something even worse. I still use EZTFamily tree. Some years ago I spoke with a programmer responsible for one of the popular gynecology programs and told him I used a program that together with the details of about 5 or 6 families and the program itself will easily fit on the ordinary floppy. He went very quiet. When I also mentioned that I could easily teach someone to use it in about 20 minutes he went into a state of shock. Oh and having failed to find a good menu system I have given up the search and at long last cleaned up my desktop - its a lot smarter, cleaner and simpler now. I have even given it a soft blue background in comparison to the black I have been using for years. I'm becoming quite a wild devil in my old age! Tom |

| 834312 | 2009-11-29 17:51:00 | I only have one icon on my desktop, the recycle bin and that is set to 60% opacity. I do everything from the start menu makes my phot's used as background look better without the icons | gary67 (56) | ||
| 834313 | 2009-11-29 19:39:00 | The only problems with QuikMenu these days are: the screen savers go insanely fast, and broad-band connections render the phone dialler a bit useless. The calculator is still the best ever presented. I cannot think of any other app that made such good use of the "~". |

I do everything from the start menu makes my phot's used as background look better without the icons Hey this is fascinating. I have got my desktop down to 21 icons. But you make this sound pretty bad. Unfortunately I have always been a bit scared of the start menu and wonder just what you actually do. More details please - even if none of us copy you it sounds interesting. I don't ever use photos etc as background. This has always struck me as a ridiculous thing to do. Guess I'm an old fashioned so and so. I want my work space clean and uncluttered - except for my desk of course. |

Tom Tom, I think you mean 'genealogy' program. 'Gynaecology' is something quite different. Unless of course you have wider interests than I thought.:confused: |
