| 1120647 | 2010-07-20 07:47:00 | I avoid those where possible (especially at work), since you don't know what malicious/NSFW website you're being redirected to when you click on that link. | somebody (208) | ||

All I want to do is to open a program, but am I right in thinking that you have to type in the full name for the first time? If so, it seems as if the tinyurl is not worth bothering with. |

If so, it seems as if the tinyurl is not worth bothering with. I think you need to explain exactly what it is you are trying to achieve? |

| 1120651 | 2010-07-21 02:50:00 | When you go to http://tinyurl . com, you are given the opportunity to 'shorten' an existing URL . So for instance if you type " . computerworld . co . nz/"" target="_blank">www . computerworld . co . nz into the box where it says "Enter a long URL to make tiny:" and then press the button "Make TinyURL!", you get " . com/yb4p9xy" . " target="_blank">tinyurl . com When that link is clicked on - or pasted into an address bar, the user is taken to " . computerworld . co . nz/" . " target="_blank">www . computerworld . co . nz I don't understand how this relates to opening a program . . . . Have you been provided a TinyURL address for a site that has a program you want to download, but you can't open the site? If so, read the post from tweak'e - you can usually get around this by adding an exception into your firewall . So long as you are sure the site is legit . As tweak'e points out, malware is often hidden behind TinyURLs, which is why firewall often block them |
