835112 2009-11-30 16:49:00 Scientists at the University of East Anglia have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit CRU was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.

Let me get this straight - they dumped the raw data and KEPT the "modified" and "homogenized" data that proved their arguments when the FACTS were totally different?!? Is that right?!? :ban

Can anyone define the word: "SCIENTIST" for me?

Try this: online.wsj.com
In spite of Murdoch's influence on the WSJ, it is way above Fox.

However, the Spin Doctors have until now managed to hide the facts.

When scientists start start hiding data from peer review it must be time to name and shame them if only for their deceit.

Absolutely. Transparency is (should be!) an integral part of science, along with investigation and debate.

835116 2009-11-30 21:27:00 There has been scientific fraud since the days of alchemists and astrologers and soothsayers, but they were generally perpetrated by individuals.

Now we are seeing mass political and scientific fraud intermingled on a global scale.....that is what globalisation does for us. GW Bush and lackey Blair of course were masters of global political fraud.

One case which aroused a lot of discussion about scientific fraud and manipulation of results, from the early 1900s on, was Millikans determination of the value of the electronic charge using very simple apparatus and fine charged oil drops.

In fact, by the nature of the experiment, and the discrete nature of the charge, and especially if one has actually repeated it, a strong case can be made for rejection of results which do not "fit".

In my primary field, Tribology, or lubrication technology, I have encountered "many" cases of fraud, from PhD students calculating their experimental results from the theory they are trying to "prove" due to lack of time to complete the practical work, (often with implicit support from profs. who want to get their departmental PhD counts up), to papers usually from academia, with fudged results.

One classic case was a paper I reviewed on gas bearings, where a significant compressibilty term had been overlooked in the analysis. Nevertheless, the so-called experimental results perfectly fitted the erroneous theoretical curve.

Over and over again I've seen experimental results fit theoretical curves beyond any realistic uncertainties of measurement. Even if the test rigs could be made to the highest standards of gauge manufacturing accuracy, there would be no way when measuring very small displacements and clearances in bearings to achieve the precision implied on the graphs in the research papers.

What is surprising with the current revelations, is that fraud appears to have been carried out on such a huge scale, the mind boggles.

Sunspot activity is very low.Last time this happened there was a mini ice age(1650-1713).The world cooled 0.7 degrees in 2008.Get the woolies out!

835119 2009-11-30 23:29:00 Well my measure of global warming is I used more firewood last year never used so much so this scientific data tells me global warming is not kosher.
You can get buggered if you think the scientists by changing the term from global warming to climate change is going to want me to pay for carbon emissions.
In the carboniferous age (when r1x2 was teenager) all these carbon atoms were on the surface and everything was ticketyboo.

835120 2009-12-01 01:47:00 This climate scandal is getting interesting:

. . . two further shocking examples have now come to light from Australia and New Zealand . In each of these countries it has been possible for local scientists to compare the official temperature record with the original data on which it was supposedly based . In each case it is clear that the same trick has been played – to turn an essentially flat temperature chart into a graph which shows temperatures steadily rising . And in each case this manipulation was carried out under the influence of the CRU .

. . . shocking revelation of these documents is the ruthless way in which these academics have been determined to silence any expert questioning of the findings they have arrived at by such dubious methods

. . . the statistical methods used to create the "hockey stick" were first exposed as fundamentally flawed by an expert Canadian statistician Steve McIntyre . . .

. . . the question which inevitably arises from this systematic refusal to release their data is – what is it that these scientists seem so anxious to hide?

. . . Our hopelessly compromised scientific establishment cannot be allowed to get away with a whitewash of what has become the greatest scientific scandal of our age .
