| 1454335 | 2018-10-12 01:42:00 | Its the Passchendaele 100th Anniversary today I am remembering the 800 New Zealanders who lost their lives in this battle in 1917. I hope many of you do as well. Lest We Forget We have a lot to thank them for and need to remember that they were mostly young men |

That it all started because the AustroHungarian Empire wanted chezoslavakia as well? That the rest joined in because of their nasty little agreements? That it all lasted just 20 years? That it had nothing to do with NZ? That it was a European land grab and no-one cared about us at all? That the UK were no better with their conquering and pillaging before? That all those guys died for nothing? That the as****s in charge had stupid battle plans and practices and couldn't care less that it caused a bloodbath endlessly over a few metres of dirt, back and forth until they started to run out of bodies? |

I couldn't have put it better my self. I always think of WW1 as a European war not a world war. |

That is very insensitive. NZ lost thousands of good young men. At the time the war was seen as necessary Its easy to blame the politicians and generals, but like today they were elected by the people. I was just trying to remind everyone what happened 100 years ago. |

| 1454343 | 2018-10-13 00:07:00 | It is not insensitive. It It's 1)True and 2)Long gone, as in even the WWII participants are few these days. There have always been wars and still are actually, why should we only care about those 2? en.wikipedia.org Right now in fact - oh but who cares right? That's people of another colour/creed/religion. Humans are pretty disgusting really, we make stupid excuses for this slaughter, people blame the one (or few) at the top, but no one man (or few) can make war, it takes a bunch of others co-operating to do so. I like to remember Archibald Baxter if anyone - go read his book and see how "our" side treated him, because he had the brains to say if all were like him, there would be no war. Too true. |
