1451913 2018-07-23 04:02:00 My trusty computer is no longer trusty. If the computer has been turned off or restarted, it periodically won’t start. I get the message “no system disk found”. If I use the kill button more often than not, several times, I might be lucky that the computer will start. I have found that sometimes disconnecting the power and data cable to the SSD, reconnecting and powering up might work. It’s not the SSD as I have a previous disconnected mechanical drive that if I try to boot (SSD disconnected) I have the same problem.

At the moment, to get the desktop to work is pot-luck. This problem has been getting worse over the last 2-3 weeks. I wonder if anyone can advise what the problem could be.

1451914 2018-07-23 04:09:00 Have you tried a different SATA port and cable ? also check the RAM is seated properly, and maybe re-seat it a few times. I know it's not likely a RAM issue but it's surprising the things that can cause.

There are some SSDs that do this, my crucial MX100 occasionally disappears from the system and it's a known bug with the drive that has never been resolved to my knowledge.
For that drive a complete power down for a few minutes is the only cure.

1451915 2018-07-23 08:01:00 If not the HDD, then sata port, sata cables or worse, the southbridge on the MB.

Try removing the atapi controller driver, and letting it redo it, but it probably won't help...

1451916 2018-07-23 08:07:00 I think it is to do with the Sata SSD. I've only had this problen since I upgraded to a SSD. I have now disconnected it and gone back to my old mechanical HDD. I've restarted several times without problem.

So much for new technology.

1451917 2018-07-23 12:01:00 Back up a bit, in your first post you state:
"It’s not the SSD as I have a previous disconnected mechanical drive that if I try to boot (SSD disconnected) I have the same problem."
now you say:
"gone back to my old mechanical HDD. I've restarted several times without problem."
so which is the case?
It may not be that the SSD is at fault here. Have you tried different ports/cables?
Have you another system you could test the SSD on?
If not can you take it to the supplier to test?

1451918 2018-07-23 19:55:00 My mind is all over the place with this. I've tested cables and ports and all I now know is that with the SSD disconnected, the mech HDD works without problem. I will leave well alone for now and hope. Bryan (147)
1451919 2018-07-24 08:04:00 I've tested cables and ports and all I now know is that with the SSD disconnected, the mech HDD works without problem. .

Then either it's the SSD or the bios on motherboard - the bit for the SSD,

1451920 2018-07-24 08:33:00 You could check for firmware updates for your SSD, they may have a fix for your issue if it is the drive causing it. dugimodo (138)
