1454790 2018-11-13 17:31:00 As regards petrol in OZ v NZ, one thing we all need to remember is that they pay for their roads from general taxation. Whereas our petrol tax pays for the roads.

Why are our roads so bad then if our road tax which is very high is paying for them?

Because although it is called road tax the government syphons a fair bit of it into whatever they see fit at the time. (Every government we have ever had Gary not just the current version}

1454792 2018-11-13 17:54:00 I know, it just annoys me that the tax is so high but not used for what they purport to use it for. I certainly don't blame the current government as much as the previous one gary67 (56)

Because we have a small population to pay for roads in a relatively large and very hilly country!

Ie size of Japan or the UK and only 5 million people!

1454794 2018-11-13 22:20:00 Maybe, we should ask: "What items do you find NOT over priced in NZ?" :D bk T (215)
1454795 2018-11-14 02:42:00 Ah yes petrol.

Up the road a bit is a Challenge - $2.31

In town is a BP - $2.20

Along the road coming back there is a Gull - $2.13
Along further a Z - also $2.13

None are terribly far apart really and I was amazed to see cars filling up at this Challenge. Why would you, even my mum said she goes to that Gull.

1454796 2018-11-14 03:58:00 Caltex at Taradale this morning $2.13. Has been costing around $135, today $125.

Gaspy is saying Gull Taradale Road now $2.01

Things are looking better.... bit of a bummer having just done a 1350K road trip a couple of weeks ago. Paid $2.30-$2.23 per litre. However, the Vitara did 5.6L/100K so that's not to bad

1454797 2018-11-14 06:35:00 Petrol 91 in Hanmer today $2.49
Diesel $1.35. I put in $115 of diesel tonight but by collecting AA points since the last fill I only paid $66 for it.

1454798 2018-11-14 07:41:00 The Education Department paid for the $125 fill of their van. Glad I don't have to pay that (about every 4 days x 2 vans plus a Ford diesel ) Our one diesel, the Ford is sutch a horrible noisy dray no one likes driving it.

1454799 2018-11-14 11:57:00 Actually everything, I stay in NZ for like half a year for work then move and come back later. Done this for the past 5.5 years. The prices take me by surprise every single time. Noah32 (17646)
