It's the only way to know what's really going on.If you buy mass produced, there's always going to be something unethical associated with it, that's inevitable. Can we import our own cotton picker? plod (107)
1454684 2018-10-30 18:03:00 If you buy mass produced, there's always going to be something unethical associated with it, that's inevitable. That 's a very depressing point of view. While it is possibly true, that doesn't mean we have have to just shrug our shoulders and just say "nothing I can do...". We can do things like look for goods that have been declared as ethically produced, support Trade Aid, and (I realize that for many people this is probably the most difficult) be prepared to pay more. 1454685 2018-10-30 18:21:00 Tony while I agree with the ideas that you obviously feel strongly about the world is not like that and as long as there are humans it is not going to be. I may well be a cynical old b****** but I have seen to many ripoffs to believe things will change.
Free Trade, Free Range, Organic and the like just translate to expensive with no gain to the original producer or any changeto the product purchased.

You are conflating issues that are not related. Fair Trade is nothing to do with Free Trade, Free Range or Organic which all relate to quite different things and philosophies. I too am fairly cynical about Organic stuff, both in the supposed benefits and the motives of many of the producers, and Free Trade is a political/economic issue, not an ethical one. Ethical production and free range farming however are moral issues, ones which we should all be concerned about. As I said in the previous post, shrugging our shoulders and saying "what can I do" is a total cop-out.

1454687 2018-10-30 19:44:00 Tony, like you I miss all those NZ made shirts, shoes, trousers, jackets, overcoats, etc.

Have a pair of Bob CHARLES, CCC slacks, bought in the late 50's and the only thing gone on them is the enclosed belt, made of terraline, do you remember the shirts made of the same material, "drip dry".

We bought quality back then.
