1454780 2018-10-24 21:56:00 Engine oil from major brands - often dear - but then for a week per say 2 months half price. But transmission/CVT oil always dear. Like Meat, rarely sells on special. kahawai chaser (3545)

1454783 2018-11-12 17:21:00 I was just looking for a digital fridge thermometer.
About the only one I coudl find in a nationwide shop in NZ is one at Jaycar for $29!

On Amazon etc they are about $6 US.

I would not mind paying say $15 but I woudl resent paying them $29.00

1454785 2018-11-12 18:00:00 Nice find, Lawrence. Thanks.

Not so sure it reckons our costs are about the same as in Oz which we all know isn't true, it also said the UK is 2% more expensive than here which certainly isn't correct

That website compares the general cost of living eg housing.
So that is not really relavent to my thread.
(I'm talking abour day to day consumer items, and things we need to buy fot our house and car etc.

Eg Hong Kong is one of the highest cost of living countries!
Do you think consumer goods are dearer in HongKong than here?
Of course housing may be dearer there.

1454787 2018-11-12 19:54:00 I just bought some cheap earbuds for my smartphone, reviewed in the USA as possibly the best $6 earbuds you can get and $17 locally from PBtech, $22 with shipping. Still cheap enough that I don't care but quite a difference in price.
I'm tempted to order a second pair from amazon and see what it ends up costing.

1454788 2018-11-12 21:21:00 Just got back from 10 days in Australia and don't think our prices are any more expensive than theirs.
Petrol is the biggest one though, with prices there for 91 being $1.33-$1.39 pre litre and prices were dropping when we left, due to the drop in crude oil prices.
In the supermarket prices seemed to be on par with us, and even more expensive in a few cases that I saw. EG: Bananas were $4.49 per kilo but ours are usually around $2.50-$3.
Alcohol is much more expensive there!

As regards petrol in OZ v NZ, one thing we all need to remember is that they pay for their roads from general taxation. Whereas our petrol tax pays for the roads.
