Working with Photos I assume you have photo Shop ? It may be that thats holding onto it.

Did a google search for nef file wont delete from recycle bin Seems is a common problem, the very first result www.dpreview.com Suggests it some program not wanting to let them go. It may not be Photo Shop, it may be something else.

Suggest you look in the task manager and see what programs are running in the background, kill off ( end Task) any thing to do with photos one at a time and see if it then lets it be deleted :2cents:

Along the same lines: Example -- if you have a word document open, you cant delete it, you have to close it first.

BTW as long as the Drive was G then the command was correct. rd/s/q G:\$Recycle.bin.

Ah, wainuitech, not Photoshop at all, but I am an aficionado of Affinity Photo . However it is not running when I try to empty the Recycle Bin . I will take up your idea about programs running in the background . Am getting more familiar with Task Manager, indeed that is how I managed today (for the first time by this route) to access the CMD prompt .

Another avenue might be for me to post in the Affinity Photo website, because if it is a common problem, then the good folks in Birmingham, UK, might know .

Many thanks again!
