| 1454704 | 2018-10-23 22:08:00 | Well how about this? I ran into a mate that is well connected to the Tuhoe Iwi and popped him the question of why Tame Iti was in China and apparently a guest of this chap Yikun Zhang. Well you could have knocked me down with a feather duster. Firstly, this mate is in his 70s and a damn good bloke. He clearly dislikes Tame Iti claiming he wasnt even a Tuhoe, he was an Arawa, a post box baby. I had no idea what that was and he explained that it was a baby that the parents couldnt look after and was put in someones letter box for them to! (He went on, They should have put a stamp on his head and written Return to sender on his ar.e.) Now, to cut to the chase, apparently Tuhoe are the only Tribe in Law that has the right to determine their own destiny. It seems there is Gold on their land and some of them wish to mine it and get rich. They argue the Government has no control over the situation. It certainly would explain Tame Itis presence in China and association with this prominent Chinese Businessman. I wonder if I can become a Tuhoe? :D |

The politicians involved should be hanging their heads in shame. (but we all know that the media won't follow up on it - more interested in the nutter.) |

Well blow me down, another mysterious 'mate' who is agreeing with you. It's like when Trump lied about how Muslims were constantly ringing him up thanking him for the travel ban! |

Please explain how if I ask someone a question, because I dont know the answer, their response means they are agreeing with me. Did you forget your medication again? |

| 1454709 | 2018-10-25 03:36:00 | For those interested I have been reading up a bit about this Tuhoe Iwi and found it most interesting. Im starting to think these fellas might be the smartest Iwi. For a start they never signed the Treaty, but still managed to extract a $170M settlement claim. :D Then I quote: For the past 25 years, since lodging the first of a long series of Treaty of Waitangi claims, Tuhoe has walked resolutely backwards, retracing its steps towards a moment 118 years ago when the tribe had within its grasp what no other Maori iwi had been able to attain under colonial dominion: recognition of its right to govern itself and to forge its own destiny. On August 27, 2012, Tuhoe stopped walking. On that day, the New Zealand Cabinet agreed to offer Tuhoe a settlement that included financial redress, control of the tribes traditional homelandTe Urewera National Parkand a pathway to autonomy. The settlement is unique, both for the Crowns willingness to negotiate over so prized a public asset as a national park and for its readiness to address the politically volatile concept of mana motuhake, the assertion of independent authority. No other iwi has made mana motuhake a non-negotiable component of its treaty claim. But perhaps no other iwi craves self-determination the way Tuhoe does. From HERE (www.nzgeo.com) but a lot more interesting stuff about them on Google for those interested. I think Im going to have to review my thinking on these fellas. :) |
