1454002 2018-10-02 19:33:00 What I'm thinking of doing is replacing the doors you can see in the attached image. Although they look quite good, they are heavy and slightly warped and very draughty despite all my sealing efforts. It is by no means certain that I will go ahead, but I've got someone coming to look on Thursday morning. I'll report back.

But these would look better:

9063Your difficulty is the doors meet and close in the middle. That would be harder to seal. Have you considered changing to a side opening set that stacks the door panels to the right hand side? Or a bifold door system with the door panels hinging out to the right side?

1454005 2018-10-03 06:27:00 I have a ranchslider.
Air? No, not at all and it certainly isn't new. Circa 1980.

yeah right!
i have an 80's ranch slider, i know how bad they are and they leak air like a sieve.
all it means is you don't notice it.
but view it with a thermal camera or even blow dust around it on a windy day it shows real fast.

1454007 2018-10-03 06:30:00 Yeah a series of pivoting stacked doors within doors - resembling sliding window panels - which can be shuffled about. From RH master door opening to the opposite side like this panoramic folding door(s) (www.youtube.com) (YT Vid) set. kahawai chaser (3545)
1454008 2018-10-03 08:35:00 Bifolds will be twice the price of ranchsliders and French doors somewhere between the two for price. A 1500x1980 French door set (2 doors) priced for me at a special rate due to sending dozens of house lots to the manufacturer was still going to be around $2k two years ago. gary67 (56)

The wood is Lawson's Cypress. It does look good, but as I said earlier, the actual doors are very heavy and one is warped. One was replaced before the house was even finished because it bowed so badly.

My options range from doing nothing (a distinct possibility if it all turns out too expensive), to replacing everything including the glass panels above. I like the idea of removing both the doors and the side panels and having bi-folds all the way across, but I was advised once that from a structural/engineering perspective that might be difficult because the current wooden beam is not massive enough to support the stuff above by itself.
French doors the same size as the sliding ones would be too big to conveniently open, I think. It is going to be interesting to see what the guy says when I see him on Thursday morning.

1454011 2018-10-03 23:34:00 Consider Euro composite sliding doors, e.g. from scandinavia, rather than old school wooden/french jumbo doors... kahawai chaser (3545)
