1454288 2018-10-10 05:04:00 The English Language is the most widely spoken language in the world. That means that you can go almost anywhere in the world and you will find someone who you can talk to.

I have travelled to a few countries in Europe and have had no problems being understood.

It is an advantage to speak another tongue but if you are English you can get away with only English.

I did not say spoken by the most people. Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) is spoken by many more than English but English is more widely spoken.

1454293 2018-10-10 19:32:00 That must be why there is such a big push for everyone to learn Maori :) CliveM (6007)

But what use is it? No one else in the world speaks Maori. You're better off learning a European language such as German or French. At least those languages are spoken in other parts of the world.

I thought Maori was originally a spoken language.

Languages evolve. So why cannot Maori evolve to include writing :-)

Even most Maori cant be bothered to learn it. Apart from a few words or phrases .
When that changes , then they can point the finger at us to also learn it.
