1452029 2018-07-26 22:53:00 When I try to delete multiple items from my Recycle Bin (Windows 10 and a PC with good specs) I run into problems. Things start off fine but when it gets to 11% it stalls and decides not to go further.

It seems to have started when I downloaded a Camera Codec to be able to view the things I was about to delete. The Codec works fine and I can see the images to make sure that they are indeed files that I am happy to delete. I got the Codec from the Nikon website as my camera is that brand. They are RAW images and when I delete just one (plus its sidecar file) is works well and quickly.

What can I do please? Re-booting has not worked.

1452030 2018-07-26 23:18:00 It seems to have something to do with the size of the file. Each RAW file is about 21.5 Mgs, whilst the sidecar files are only 7.33 Kbs. The sidecar files are happily deleting into the ether, whilst nothing happens with the RAW files when I press delete! The few Jpeg files also happily deleted. Misty (368)

are you having issues emptying the recycle bin
or issues just trying to del the files.

If its in the recycle bin, its been deleted. Right click on the bin & press empty
If not in the bin & theres alot of files to delete, it can sometimes take a while to do.

Are/were these files on the C:
or on a external USB Hard Drive
or on a memory stick or camera memory card.

1452032 2018-07-27 08:43:00 If you want to skip the recycle bin, hold down Shift when you select Delete, and you'll get the option to permanently delete (without the bin being involved). I'm assuming your Nikon app is used to 'preview' these files prior to that point, and that you're doing your deletion via Windows, not via the Camera app. Paul.Cov (425)
1452033 2018-07-27 21:49:00 Hi 1101 - It is a problem of permanently deleting things that already are in the recycle bin. I have not tried to delete them all at once as I am going through them to make sure I have not put something in there by mistake. However since it will not permanently delete single RAW files or groups then cannot envisage that it would empty the lot anyway. It is certainly not a matter of being patient, as I have waited ages to see if that helps. The files were on my G Hard Drive, which houses all of my 30,000 photos. The C Drive is a small solid state drive with my operating system and the programs. All of these things are in my desktop.

Thanks, Paul, but I already know that.

1452034 2018-07-27 23:45:00 What do you see when you try to empty the Recycle Bin? Sometimes, especially when the bin contains a large number of files, when you click on 'Empty Recycle Bin' not all the files clear from the window, as if they have not been removed. In fact, if you close and then reopen the Recycle Bin you find that it is empty. This seems to be a 'feature' that appeared with Windows 10 but it is not a real problem. Jayess64 (8703)
1452035 2018-07-28 00:02:00 Sounds like a "feature" that Norton used to have. zqwerty (97)

Hi Jayess, I do appreciate that you want to help, however I have mentioned in my first post that I have tried re-booting my desktop. Additionally the problem remains over several days, when I have shut my desktop down at the end of the day. For some reason it seems to have a 'blind spot' where RAW files (specifically Nikon NEF files) are concerned.

Good suggestion - which I could also do in CCleaner - however then I do not have the ability to cherry pick. :(
