1122443 2010-07-26 07:17:00 Dear all,

I have been put charged into setting up an online voting system. Based on the e-mail addresses that I have obtained from 400 voters, I envisage a system whereby the voters are e-mailed using auto-generated password to the online voting poll. Once the user is logged in, he or she would then be able to cast their vote.

Is there any way this can be done? Thanks.

1122444 2010-07-26 07:28:00 Just had a thought:

I guess I can setup a forum with the polls created in it. Next, the users will be registered by me. They would then be allowed to login to the forum and vote.

Now I need to figure out a way to automate the registration of the users by feeding in 400 e-mail addresses into the forum.

1122445 2010-07-26 07:46:00 The title should've been "Need a way to conduct a poll" Renmoo (66)
1122446 2010-07-26 11:51:00 If you hunt around you may find a forum software that will only accept applications based on email addy. Or an addon for something like phpbb.

Ask on some of the bigger forum software forums and something may pop up.

Could also looking at a CMS, there's plenty of weird addons that you would never see a use for until you come across the thread like this lol

1122447 2010-07-26 12:00:00 Why not send each of the 400 voting papers with a unique number in PDF format and only allow editing of certain fields by protecting the document? Snorkbox (15764)
1122448 2010-07-26 12:45:00 Using moderater powers in PHP you can affect the poll as has been seen on PressF1 already. Snorkbox (15764)
1122449 2010-07-26 13:14:00 Why not use an email app?

Specify that their reply be sent in a specific format and have something like a unique word for each vote.

Set up a message filter for each vote which moves it to a specific folder.

Each reply then would count as one vote and since you have their addresses, you can then verify that person.

1122450 2010-07-26 13:25:00 Also consider that one person may have more than one Email address as well.

Does this poll have to be transparent so there is no possibility of any rigging?

1122451 2010-07-26 19:54:00 Use something like Surveymonkey - no need to reinvent the wheel. somebody (208)

Does it allow copying and pasting of a list of e-mail addresses that are to be notified of a poll?
