I have a Linksys wireless G that we use for our notebook wirelessly. 3 Questions: Is going wireless, worse for online shooter games? Are the usb type adaptors not as good as an internal card type? Is speed important, such as a 54MPS, or is there better technology than say this one... D-Link DWA-510, Wireless Adapter, 54Mbps, 802.11b/g, PCI (ascent.co.nz) Appreciated! |

That said, when my wife and I play DotA together on battle.net, it's the difference between a 12ms connection from my PC and a 25ms connection from the Macbook, both of which are more than "acceptable" for online gaming IMO! Speed isn't important in the slightest, but a solid connection is. Most games will use a 1-3KB/sec at most unless you're hosting. Internal or External makes little difference :) |

USB Adaptors-- Seen many problems with them, the card you linked will be a lot more reliable than USB. (used plenty of those cards and they work fine) |

| 1122381 | 2010-07-26 04:17:00 | I play a lot of shooters online and I will roll out my 10m ethernet cable for important matches, but most of the time I'm too lazy to bother and just use my úber-budget wireless G adaptor . Latency doesn't usually suffer much - maybe 2 or 3ms . Drops maybe 1 or 2 packets out of 250 in pingtest quite consistently . Doesn't bother me too much unless, like above, it's an important match . But yeah I heard PCI cards with antennas are much better . I should really invest in one of those (especially as I have a wireless N router) :p edit: also I believe 54Mbps is the max speed for Wireless G unless it's one of those fancy 108Mbps MIMO thingies . . . |
