837443 2009-12-07 19:21:00 "It felt more like a ride than a computer program, something between an observation-deck and a glass-walled spaceship. As a result of this totally seamless, immersive (sic) experience, we decided to name it the Liquid Galaxy," Google writes.

The company notes that this is still very much a 20% project for them, they are "working hard to improve it." Hopefully that means two things:

1) Turning it into a Star Trek-style Holodeck.
2) Figuring out how to make it less than 10,000 degrees inside (thanks to all the screen heat).

Live long and prosper. (www.washingtonpost.com)

It also links to Street-View so you can ride down almost any street or boulevard or Mars or the Moon and it feels more like a ride than a computer generation or game.

This is kewl - but I wonder if my wife won't raise a Spockian eyebrow when I come home with twelve wide screen HDTVs.

837445 2009-12-07 19:54:00 Is this designed for people who dont go outside -- Heres an idea - people get off their butts and away from the computer or TV, and open the door - walk out --- OH my god - its real life, with real sounds and smells. wainuitech (129)
837446 2009-12-07 20:17:00 I'm NOT going outside today or maybe even tomorrow either. The Holodeck looks like a nice warm place right now.

Besides, snow's wet - I don't do wet without a bar of soap and total nudity at the same time.

It's snowing wet, sticky stuff and the temperature is just slightly below the freezing point of water right now. That may be why it snow-raining or sky-slushing right now. BTW: We are at 4,250 feet/1295.4m too.

But in Missoula where my son lives, he expects a HIGH of 7F/-13.889C and a LOW last night of -7F/-21.667C. Coupled with 3-4 feet/1.8m-2.1m of snow and he's having a good time driving to-from work.

Time to fire up the BBQ.

Think you got your metric conversions a little askew there Joe - 1.8m is just under 6 feet...

Mind you, there's probably been more snow by now (due to Al Gore's global warming, no doubt), so it may well be 1.8m of snow by now...

(Rule of thumb: 30cm = 1 foot)

Rule of Apples / Oranges : Thumbs must not be used to measure feet.

837450 2009-12-08 00:13:00 We used to use the King's Nose, but that grew outdated.

OK 30cm = approx 1 foot. Is that the same as 3 meters?

Centa-deca-mega-micro-farthings-stones-hundredweights-tonnes are all so confusing!

837451 2009-12-08 00:15:00 Double post sorry!

Or is that a deca-post?

Centa-deca-mega-micro-farthings-stones-hundredweights-tonnes are all so confusing! Hope not :p 1 meter = approx 39 & 3/8 inches

so doing some simple maths, 3 meters = , x3 carry the 1, divide by weather temp at SJ 's house, x NZ temp = , errrrr :p 9.84252 feet

The 30cm = 1 foot is close, its 30.5 cm or 305 mm

For those not knowing imperial - 1 foot = 12 inches
