836909 2009-12-06 06:28:00 Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of pop star Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, was hospitalized after taking eight pills at her Manhattan apartment, a law enforcement official said Saturday.

A friend frantically called 911 shortly after noon Saturday from the singer's Greenwich Village apartment saying Joel, 23, had taken several pills, the official told The Associated Press. Joel took eight pills, though officials didn't know what kind she had ingested, an official said; it wasn't clear whether she had accidentally overdosed or attempted suicide, the official said.

Nah - I posted this for a reason . SOME people here were all upset that Tiger had a splash all over the media and they thought it was an invasion of HIS privacy (the premise of which I do NOT believe) .

But here again is another H-Wood type with a splash that is for the most part a negative .

It's just human to want the dirt on ivory tower people who tout their proficiency/talent over everyone else and use that as leverage to swim to the top of the food chain .

Talent is talent and scandal is scandal - but they do NOT have to exist in the same person . Unfortunately there's the old saying: "Power (or money) corrupts, and ABSOLUTE POWER (or money money) ABSOLUTELY corrupts" .

The truth is that everyone likes the "Man Bites Dog" type story - here it's just another H-Wood oddball getting de-pegged!

Too bad - it shouldn't be this way - but it is . Maybe Billy should have been at home being a good dad instead of leaving her to fester in self-denial and depression . The mom I also find reprehensible for the screwed up kid they made together .

I blame the absent and don't care parents for most of the societal ills going on around us these days .

Besides, shes an adult.

I hope this isn't some of your religous teachings about to come out .

836917 2009-12-06 09:15:00 I think NZ has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. I have some contentious thoughts on suicide:
Some just want an end to mental / physical pain and its their right to end the suffering. I think we should respect the persons choice they had a guts full and don't want to continue.
The more its talked about the bigger the chance it will become trendy and copycat behaviour will follow.
I think people who have suicide attempts especially multiple attempts are crying out for sympathy.
I know some people will think I am a bastard but but imo people who do half assed suicide attempts are contemptible.

836918 2009-12-06 09:24:00 I consider it a persons right to suicide, Though I have seen the damage done to those left behind and it aint pretty.

I don't agree a non-newsworthy event becomes newsworthy because the person is famous, or in the case of the women whose actions are reported in this thread, a person no one has ever heard of who happens to be related to someone famous.
