836760 2009-12-05 21:04:00 What are some very good Asian food in Auckland?

Will have a car and staying in Central Aucklandover Christmas for a few nights. Wouldn't mind some driving.

Establishment name and address would be fantastic.
In particular they want a good dinner place that does good Asian roast, a wonton noodle place and a yum char place.

Some years ago the had wontons at (a HK place) Tallers Restaurant just off Queens Street, on the street with Dick Smiths. Someone I spoke to who lives in Auckland said that is ok but not the best. Any ideas?

Also they have traditionally went to Tai Ping to get some roasts to bring home to Wellington. Or where else you suggest?

Cheers. :D

The above places get rave reviews in the poncy magazines (e . g Metro) personally, I find them average . They're also expensive . They also have set eating schedules and seem to have trouble with food arriving to tables . They also seem to seat the upper class first .
.
Pearl Garden . ( . google . co . nz/maps/place?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org . mozilla:en-US:official&hs=nt3&cr=countryNZ&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Pearl+Garden&fb=1&gl=nz&hq=Pearl+Garden&hnear=Auckland&cid=14903615530283252187" target="_blank">maps . google . co . nz) Got mentioned in the Metro Magazine .

Welfare BBQ Noodle Bar . ( . menumania . co . nz/restaurants/welfare-bbq-noodle-bar-auckland" target="_blank">www . menumania . co . nz) Located in East Auckland . Roast meats and wonton noodles .

There is also Love A Duck restaurant ( . finda . co . nz/business/listing/578g/love-a-duck-restaurant/" target="_blank">www . finda . co . nz) in various places in Auckland . I have not tried this place . (BBQ Meats . Not sure about wonton noodles)

All do a dinner menu .
All of these places have parking problems so take that into account .

836763 2009-12-05 23:22:00 Thanks for that Bob.

They prob won't be too interested in the pricey places. They want good food, real chinese "home" style if you know what I mean. So I adjust ignore the top 3 of your list?

How is Tai Ping in your view? As a take home roast. Its a chinese groecery store I think that does BBQ too.

It varies from location to location with different chefs. But overall, they are average.

836768 2009-12-06 05:16:00 Thai Flame. They're a bit out of Auckland, but pretty easy to get there (about 30 minutes from Central Auckland.

Ti Rakau Drive, East Tamaki.

They do the MOST wonderful Flaming grilled chicken. It's not onoly a sight to behold when they p;repare it at your table, but it's always succulent and tasty as... an amazing tasty thing!

I reckon I've been there about 6 times within about 2 years. And you'll love all the other dishes, the great service, and really cool decor. Prices are mid range.

Highly recommended.
