836770 2009-12-06 23:11:00 Try Chow, at either the Viaduct (1 Pakenham Street East) or Takapuna (178 Hurstmere Rd). http://www.chow.co.nz
Food is superb.

Or, for really great value, (but not Asian food), try Lone Star at 8 Kent Street Newmarket. We were there on Saturday night for the first time. Food is really really great, but beware, the portions are ginormous. Entree, main, dessert plus two drinks around $80 (each). http://www.lonestar.co.nz

Have fun!

Cheers for that but they are more old fashioned. They want the more authentic Chinese food that you find in China or HKG like where the locals live, not the CBDs. Dai pai dong. That's in cantonese. Like they have those outdoor eating places with the sun shades. :D

They are not really into the west east fusion. I have tried Chows I think in Wellington with others that may be a bit too west or structured for them.

836772 2009-12-07 04:02:00 I just realised...

If you're planning on dining during the chrissy holidays, Welfare will be closed.
Also, it may pay to book ahead or take your chances and attempt to get a seat on Xmas day. Almost all the yum char places will be packed then.

Also, another restaurant to add to your list...
Sun World (maps.google.co.nz) in Newmarket. (yum char + din din + roast I think ) Right under Tournament Parking. (tvnz.co.nz) Newmarket

836773 2009-12-07 05:14:00 Thanks for that, may call ahead for a reservation.

Arriving 26th night and staying for 3 nights. Yup in the holiday period.

836774 2009-12-14 09:29:00 Bumping up for Enjoy Inn (maps.google.co.nz): Greenlane, right under all the ladies at Countours Gym

Again, yum char + dinner. Can't remember if they do roast meats...

I cannot vouch for dinner meals or roasts with most of the places I've listed. Only yum char.

I pass by Enjoy Inn virtually every Sunday; it is always 100% crowded.

Best to book early.

836777 2009-12-14 10:54:00 Grabbed a Kebab at Sylvia Park last night, Was pretty damn fine.

No case of the squirts to report either.

Though I bought some chicken fried rice out of a pie warmer from a really dodgy food bar for lunch today............

836779 2009-12-14 17:15:00 There used to be a lovely little Thai place in here, bottom floor, far right corner as you enter through the main doors. I honestly ate there 11x some weeks:

There's also a nice Indian place, some nice Chinese upstairs, a Love a Duck nextdoor and an awesome sushi place right opposite the Love a Duck
