1123417 2010-07-30 11:51:00 Can someone please tell me how to turn off that quickstart thing ASUS has that lets you hit the internet etc without booting up? DeSade (984)
1123418 2010-07-30 15:21:00 I'm guessing there's an option in the BIOS somewhere (but I don't really know) Agent_24 (57)
1123419 2010-07-30 20:46:00 Its probably in the BIOS (Express Gate) ? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1123420 2010-07-30 21:46:00 Yes Express Gate is the name.
Trouble is this bypasses the bios so I am not sure how to access it.

1123421 2010-07-30 22:02:00 Well, it's either in the BIOS (look in the BIOS), disable it. Or you can install it. If its installed, uninstall it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1123422 2010-07-30 23:05:00 thought express gate was stamped on a chip? nedkelly (9059)
1123423 2010-07-30 23:41:00 It is a chip that allows some things to run without booting into windows.
And I am sure it is bios controlled as there is nothing in software.

But the issue is the Express Gate bypasses all normal boot screens so I cannot see anyway into the Bios.

1123424 2010-07-30 23:48:00 Might be lurking under services, either under Control panel - Administration Tools - Local Services; Or Msconfig then services tab, where can be stopped/disabled. Or try a utility like what's running net (www.whatsrunning.net/) to pinpoint it for disabling. I had similar issue with adware after uninstalling it, there were references hanging about, but found it remained under services.

Or unless there is a removal tool, similar to Norton's...

1123425 2010-07-31 00:08:00 Maybe a anti virus boot scan may be able to detect/allow removal. I used Avast 5 and set to and run for boot time scan - and found a few fragments/corrupt files. Also Sysinternals Autoruns might help diagnose. kahawai chaser (3545)
1123426 2010-07-31 00:21:00 Its either an option in the BIOS or you can install it (its also a program). This mobo supports it, but I've disabled it. Because it doesnt support AHCI, or RAID mode Speedy Gonzales (78)
