1122908 2010-07-27 22:16:00 I know I'm taking a stab in the dark ... but then again you never know your luck.

As the title suggests I'm after a German offline dictionary. For the English language I've been using / for ages and recently downloaded also wordnet.princeton.edu I'm very happy with these two programs.

Does anybody know an equivalent to these two offline dictionaries but for the German language? I would be really grateful.

Many thanks.

1122910 2010-07-27 22:32:00 Doing an advanced Google search pulls up online dictionaries, however the reverso net site allows downloads, don't know if free, and what specific downloads they mean. Also about com german (german.about.com) (translators, etc) may have useful links.

Try search terms (with your own variations) like:

site:.com "german dictionary" +translate +english +download +offline free
site:.edu "german dictionary" +translate +english +download +offline free
site:.org "german dictionary" +translate +english
site:.de "german dictionary" +translate +english +download +offline free

The de (i.e. de.com) generally refers to the TLC (top level domain) for Germany. Using that for combo searches should pull up what you need.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately this is not quite the right one. I'm not looking for a German<>English dictionary but a German dictionary where you can find correct spelling, synonyms, word defintions etc in German only.

1122912 2010-07-28 02:17:00 In the days when I studied commercial and technical German I used Langenscheidts. I see they are still to the forefront in dictionaries, and also online dictionaries, have a browse through this Google search:
