838103	2009-12-09 08:47:00	Hey guys. As much as I hate ford, I have a question to ask. How much oil would a 1997 Ford Transit 2.5 Diesel hold? The dipstick on my fathers' (who also hates ford) is either way too short, or there's no oil in the thing. I'm hoping for the former, we chucked in half a litre or so, and it didn't show on the dipstick, but then he noticed that the dipstick doesn't even have high/low marks! We're a bit worried now, as he just brought it a couple days ago. He's contacted the seller about it, but I thought I'd get your guys opinions on it. He and I both reckon it's in the 4-6l area, but can't nail it down any further. Google is useless, the closest I got was an '88, which tool 7l! Thanks.	ubergeek85 (131)

838109	2009-12-09 19:48:00	I would focus on making sure you have correct dipstick first as it would only indicate the top 1 - 2 litres. Why not drain the oil and see how much is actually in the sump then compare with the specs provided or even ring a Ford dealership.	sam m (517)
838110	2009-12-10 01:48:00	Hey guys thanks for all the info. Went into town and hunted round for a bit and got ahold of a matching replacement - turns out the dipstick is waaay too short. Think 8-12cm! That half-litre he added put the level past the max, but not enough to worry 'bout. Thanks all.	ubergeek85 (131)
838111	2009-12-10 02:01:00	Be careful with a full load of oil in a Transit engine, combine that with a full fuel tank and your insurer will raise you into a price bracket much more expensive than the one which assumes empty fluids.	R2x1 (4628)
